We get our own Shakespeare in the Park this coming weekend (Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15) as Theater 2020 continues their critically praised production of King Lear with three free performances at Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings starting at 7:00.
It’s slated to be perfect walking weather on Saturday, so what could be better than to join Homer Fink on his eye-opening Hidden Brooklyn Heights Walking Tour?
Bargemusic has a full schedule of “masterworks” concerts. On Friday evening at 7:00 husband and wife pianists Orion Weiss and Anna Polonsky will play works by Faure, Schubert, Haydn, Debussy, and Dvorak. On Saturday evening at 7:00 and on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms will be performed by Mark Peskanov on violin, Alexander Mishnaevski on viola, Robert deMaine on cello, and Alexander Peskanov on piano. There’s more information and buy tickets here. Saturday afternoon at 3:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert. Doors open at 2:30; first come, first seated. Yes, the barge is air conditioned.

Also at Brooklyn Bridge Park this weekend, Pier Kids will present a “block party” with Brooklyn Children’s Museum on the Pier 6 lawn (near the foot of Atlantic Avenue) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, with art activities starting at noon. Also on Sunday Smorgasburg will be on the Pier 5 uplands (near the Joralemon Street entrance) Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, starting at noon, there will be a free Docent Tour of Pier 1. Looking ahead, The Fence returns to BBP on this coming Monday, June 16, and there will be a free public walking tour of The Fence on Wednesday the 18th, featuring “officials from Brooklyn Bridge Park, sponsors and supporters, and featured photographers, who will be on hand to discuss their work.” The tour begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Main Street entrance to Brooklyn Bridge Park, in DUMBO.
