NYPD Brings Skynet Closer To Reality As It Tests ‘Robocar’ In Brooklyn Heights

Clearly, no one has learned anything from The Terminator series or Robocop. The New York Daily News reports that the NYPD has been testing a new high tech police cruiser loaded with gadgets including a high speed license plate scanner. It’s been assigned to the 84th Precinct in Brooklyn Heights.

NYDN: It’s usually assigned to critical areas such as the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, he said.
“It’s tiny, but there’s a lot of technology in it,” he said.
Del Pozo agreed that the car is small, but packed with crimefighting potential.
“Police cars in general are getting smaller as the NYPD and the city are becoming more fuel-conscious,” he said.
The car is one of the first projects to be rolled out of the department’s long-term strategic plan, NYPD2020, crafted by consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly approved the testing of the prototype, but it will be up to the incoming commissioner, Bill Bratton, to decide if the program moves forward, officials said.
