Laws? Who Needs ‘Em! Joe Lhota Rides A CitiBike With The NY Daily News

While we were celebrating Toddler Fink’s birthday and 22 glorious years with Mrs. Fink last week, we somehow missed this brilliant piece of journalism from NY Daily News reporter Justin Rocket Silverman. The intrepid reporter, who we will now refer to as NOT KUNTZMAN, rode CitiBikes with GOP mayoral candidate/Brooklyn Heights resident Joe Lhota. This, friends, is INTERNET GOLD!

Why? Breakin’ the law!

In the first few seconds Lhota says, “Do you want to go on the Promenade? I know it’s illegal but there’s probably nobody there right now.” He’s a bad mutha — SHUT YOUR MOUTH — Lhota!

Lhota answers some softball questions from NOT KUNTZMAN while rolling around the neighborhood, at one point squeezing by an Access-a-Ride vehicle double parked on Montague Street.

So what does Lhota think about the much ballyhooed Citibikes? In the closing shot he says, “These seats are the most bloody uncomfortable for a bike, I swear to God.”

One thing about rental bikes… you’ve got to adjust the seat height.

Lhota’s attitude seems to be , “The rules don’t apply to me,”

…and he wants to be mayor?

  • Moni

Every single piece of Lhota’s campaign Literature that got stuffed in my mailbox had large pictures of Rudy Gulliani’s ugly puss on it — pictures even larger than those of Candidate Lhota’s. Now he claims he isn’t another Rudy. But the behavior indicates otherwise. Ugh.

Rules don’t apply to any citi bikers..everyday, i see them on the promenade, going wrong way in traffic and not obeying traffic laws…

  • Topham Beauclerk

Is the readership of BHB aware that this son of the working class – his father was a cop – is a lickspittle for the billionaire Koch Brothers who would impoverish the whole world if they could do in order to avoid paying one more dollar in taxes?

  • Judy

It is troubling to read this as reportedly coming from the Mayoral candidate himself: “Lhota says, “Do you want to go on the Promenade? I know it’s illegal but there’s probably nobody there right now.” The BHA office receives a lot of complaints from residents about illegal bike riding on the Promenade. I hope that others do not follow the bad example.

  • spm

So, first it was ‘let’s ride on the Promenade even though it’s illegal’ and then ‘do you mind if we go the wrong way on a one-way street – as long as you don’t write about it.l Did the man not realize he was being videotaped?? Besides the sheer arrogance, the stupidity was a bit mind-boggling. Thought about voting for him but now, not.

Traffic laws and street layouts that were designed for cars set up impossible expectations in the minds of pedestrians about the behavior of bicyclists.

Joe L is the Koch Brother’s funded candidate for NYC Mayor.

“there’s probably nobody there right now.” On the Promenade, are you kidding. He must not ever go there or he’s delusional.

Are you trying to say, The traffic rules shouldn’t apply to bicycles?

  • DIBS

By 2015, pensions and healthcare costs will exceed 50% of NYC’s budget. Anyone think DeBlahsio will be able to address that???? NO.

  • Remsen Street Dweller

    YES.

  • Watch Out

It seems Lhota has a huge problem with shoving his foot down his throat, big time, whenever he opens it. From his heartless comment on the kittens on the train track to some of the choice quips from this Citibike ride, one has to wonder how in heck this guy was the best the Repubs could dredge up to rep the party in the mayoralty contest. Zero charisma or political savvy. The offshoot? We are going to take a huge step backwards as a city in some key dimensions of governance when DiBlasio, no less Letitia James and her ilk, take the reins of power come January 1st. In particular, look for crime to skyrocket as they peel back the law enforcement initiatives under Giuliani and Bloomberg that have seen crime nosedive. And look for the already over-burdened taxpayer to be asked to take on a far greater tax burden as these Obama-acolytes look to provide payback to the many DiBlasio / James voters who feed off the trough of ever increasing entitlements and give-aways. It ain’t going to be pretty.

  • Watch Out

And? DiBlasio is the funded candidate of the devil incarnate George Soros.

This is a fun 1893 New York Times piece from the crime desk. No point here, just sharing.

Felted hat-tip to bikesnobnyc on blogspot.

  • DIBS

    And worse, the unions.

  • DIBS

I couldn’t have said it better myself, especially about the entitlement crowd.

  • Remsen Street Dweller

Define “entitlement crowd’ please. Do you mean the elderly that have paid for Social Security all their lives, the people collecting unemployment because the US government outsources a ton of jobs? The flip side of the “ugly” word “entitlement” is entitled as in “entitled to.”

  • DIBS

    We’ll see. I doubt it.

  • DIBS

What jobs does the US government outsource? Do they have call centers in INdia??? They are the largest employer in the nation. You’re not even making sense.

    Good one!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Yes but as Eddie Murphy said “What have you done for me lately”

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

You need to read more carefully. RSD didn’t claim that the federal government outsources jobs. What RSD wrote was, “the US government sets policy that enables corporations to outsource a ton of jobs.” That may be a debatable point, but at least address the right question.

  • Remsen Street Dweller

BTW, seems the US government does outsource jobs, big time:

    Interesting; thanks!

  • Waldo

    Sure do.

  • David on Middagh

    Where are you, anyway?
