Hallelujah for a beautiful week coming up. Enjoy.

Is there a James Carpenter-designed pavilion coming to Pier 5 in BBP? Had never heard anything about this, but I stumbled onto a bunch of renderings on his website: http://www.jcdainc.com/.
The images look extraordinary, but I assume that if this was happening, there would have been more discussion of it somewhere.

Anyone in the neighborhood have phone service through Time Warner? We cannot get FIOS in our building. Before switching, just wondering if people have found it reliable.

Went to Sociale for first time last night. yes the tables are a bit crowded and it’s a bit noisy but I sat at the bar. Service was excellent. Excellend long wine list from $20 to well over $100 and lots of carafes.

Francesco had known I wanted a proper carbonara and even though it’s only on the lunch menu my guest and I split one as an appetixer. It was excellent.

I had a roats pork tenderloin, excellently seasoned and cooked with some asparagus slivers and polenta. it was very good. Guest had the halibut, perfectly seasoned and not over cooked on a bed of spinach puree.

We had cheese course for dessert while, not the best in Brooklyn (Saraghina) was very good and VERY large.

    Will be back soon

Friend has it. Seems fine but he really only has it for overseas calls.

Hello BHBers – Does anyone know anyone looking for tutors for 3-8th graders in the neighborhood? My wife is a middle school teacher and looking to pick up some tutoring this year in her spare time. Math and English are her specialities and of course references are available.

I made the mistake of purchasing something from GROSSTIDES. I bought almond milk and found DEAD ants in it… or at least I think they are ants.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Haha, yes, I’m sure they have a “proper carbonara” because Francesco knew that DIBS wanted it.
I agree though – fantastic additional to the Heights. Glad that the liquor license came in.

  • BrooklynBird

Did they have an issue with the liquor license?

  • Rick

I’ve had it for about 4 years, and find it fine, with good sound quality, too. It has gone out for a total of about 1/2 hour during that time.
However, I am unhappy about Time Warner’s high rates, and unless their price goes down plan to switch to FIOS when it soon becomes available in our building.

  • Rick

It sounds like the firm was invited to submit a design, but I didn’t see anywhere on their website that the design was actually accepted.

And although it looks great in the rendering, that is partially because it is shown from the most flattering angle, as designers tend to do. I think it would be a mistake in reality, as the view to Manhattan would be largely blocked for a substantial swath of park, and the light pollution at night would be unfortunate.

I’m hoping for something more open and appropriate for the site. But since plans made public have been somewhat lacking in detail, I guess we’ll have to wait and see what is done.

    What a wonderful Wednesday!

We have called it GROSStides for a long time.
That place is both disgusting and expensive.

    Moving this to open thread:

Why can dogs pee all over the street and not people? What’s the
difference, really? Urine is sterile by dog or by human. When you gotta go, you gotta
    go.Any thoughts?

  • TMS

On another note: what happened to the voice of the people? Now, it seems to be the voice of the super rich and powerful. Like term limits. Like LICH. Like charter schools getting public school funds. How come what the people want doesn’t happen? Where is the disconnect? How can this be changed. Your thoughts?

Pier 5 has already been developed, with soccer fields and a scenic path all the way around. Piers 2,3, and 4 are still to be completed.

  • MonroeOrange

    that’s extra protein for free!

The only good thing about that store is the fresh cookies they bake, good and a reasonable price. The rest is so expensive, its laughable!

    Bring back SLOANS!

  • Rocky Raccoon

    Ditto!

  • MonroeOrange

i see people peeing all the time in the streets…and the dogs get the blame!

  • DIBS

No, it was just a bit late. Great wine selection and at a very broad price range. Lots of very affordable wines.

  • DIBS

Any of you ever notice that TWC does not carry the Local on The *s from the Weather Channel that you get elsewhere? Maybe you have no comparison but it’s a very dumbed down version. Awful.

And the On Demand Movie selection is truly awful.

  • Jorale-man

Yikes, where do you see people peeing in the street? That’s gross.

Regardless, I give props to dog owners who take their pets to the curb when they can.

  • BrooklynBird

    Good to know. Thanks

  • BrooklynBird

Where else is there to shop for major grocery’s? Pea and Pickle don’t have everything and things on Atlantic seem a bit too far. New to the area.

We had a weird experience last week. The place was crowded, but we had reserved a table for 4 the day before to avoid long waiting time. The waiter told us to wait 5 min outside. Two other parties of 4 came during the next 10 min. After less than 10 min, the second group to arrive was placed. We reminded the waiter that we came before and he told us to wait another 1 min. A table close to the window went empty and we waited 5 other min, just to see the third group be placed there (they asked for it, said the waiter). Then another party of 4 came, it started raining, and this new group didn’t want to wait and asked to be seated before us “because they had booked before”. Guess what ? They got a table before us. As two members of our party were trying to speak up and get a table, these two groups were seated before us. There was no apology or rational explanation for seating us after 3 other parties while we were the first to check in. The only reason I can see is that we looked younger than the other (We’re in the 30s). That’s really strange and annoying…
Other than that, I totally agree with the general reviews : food was great for everybody(loved the meatballs and risotto), and the service at the table was perfect (quick and nice). Great evening overall. The only unkind person even during the meal was the seating waiter (and also boss?). The restaurant is pretty noisy, but when less crowded, it is ok.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and would like to go again, hopefully have a second opinion after this mishap.

Had a lovely bike ride to work today. Soaked up the weather as much as I could.

  • Lulu

You can get local on the 8s, if you turn off AutoHD (in settings) and go to channel 93 (the non-HD weather channel). Hope that helps!

  • Heights_Neighbor

And the library! And a hotel/condo in the park! The people get shafted big time!

  • Heights_Neighbor

Avoid TWC at all costs! Your bill will rise every month without gaining additional services. They will tack on charges and hope you don’t notice. (Suddenly i was being charged an extra $1.25 for an additional remote. Hmm, ifthe do this tonthousands of customers who dont notice, that’s, that’s a lot of $$$!)!Customer service, if you can get through, is atrocious. Last time I called to see if they could do anything to lower my bill, the woman ended up raising it without adding anything on, and then couldn’t change it back. It definitely a criminal operation. Disgusting!
