Wanted to share the info that the gardener who has been keeping the gardens along the Promenade in such a good condition has, shock horror, accepted a new job, at better pay, somewhere else. So there’s a new guy doing the job now. Homer, check with the BHA or Parks Dept. for complete details.

siggy’s on Henry has some stuff. Le Pain Q has a gluten-free quiche.

Front Street Pizza in Dumbo has gluten free pizza I believe, can’t speak to the quality, but might be worth a shot.

the B61 or B57 will take you within 2-3 blocks of the park. http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/busbkln.pdf

use the mta trip planner is you need further details

Being that passover just ended, you should check the supermarket for food Kosher for Passover. While matzah isn’t gluten free, many ‘bread’ crumbs and other items are made out of potato and will not contain glutten. But of course read the labels…good luck ;)

Have Bloomy hire a security and cleaning crew. Stop feeding the millionaire developers.

A 2nd march from the north Hgts to LICH on Sunday makes sense. Too bad this demonstration wasn’t better organized. But nothing is stopping us from gathering a Bklyn Hgts group spontaneously on our own. We won’t be joined by the foolish snobs that think they’ll never use a Bklyn hospital or have a medical emergency, but my guess is that the majority of Hgts residents need and want LICH

Krescendo on Atlantic closer to Boerum Hill has GF pizza options. Noodle Pudding does all pasta dishes GF (you don’t get the same style noodle, but all the rest of the goodies), and Sosta on Atlantic has good GF nabe pizza too. Celiac runs in my family and I’ve been GF for over 6 years. Both Perelandra and Trader Joe’s carry the better GF breads (stick with Udi’s and Canyon Bakehouse) and Gristedes, All in One, and Key Food on Montague have good sections with Bob’s Red Mill flours and other items.

@Tony, when I thought a car had damaged a neighbor’s bike while being parked, I took cellphone photos of the license plate and other identifying characteristics. The car’s owner turned out to be a neighbor, who ran out of her house and, happily, helped right the bike. Egregiously damaging someone’s property and walking away is heinous — even if it is over time. Since these Sunday Parkers have a predictable schedule, why not stand on the block brandishing your mobiles? People do not like having their cars and license plates photographed; it seems un-American.

Can anyone comment on the St George’s tower? I’m looking to buy an apt and wondering what people have to say about the building and culture there. Thanks!

  • Wiley E.

    Correction: billionaire developers.

I have been going to the library several times a week for the past 8 years and have never encounter a single roach.

  • ltap917

More manageable than what? This library is at times pretty crowded. Sometimes all the tables on the second floor are filled yet you want a smaller, more manageable library!

  • ltap917

What are the maintenance charges? Compare them to other apartments in your price range. Find out if there are any assessments.

  • Knight

I have lived at the St. George for many years. It’s a friendly atmosphere … a lot of pets and small children. The apartments themselves tend to be small unless you buy and combine two, so families often move once they have more than one child! The building is well maintained and very secure. Great roof garden. Maintenance is on the high side but you get what you pay for.

Join the March to Save LICH on Sunday!

Take the B61 bus to Red Hook. There’s a B61 stop near LICH at the corner of Atlantic & Hicks.

  • Remsen Street Dweller

Also the B57 bus (check out where it leaves from)

It is now that Gery has departed.

The example you cite, bklyn20, has nothing to do with the problem I’m talking about. What’s the point of standing around threatening to photograph people’s cars? The city allows this practice, all in the name of religion. And if homeowners have to shell out thousands in repairing cracked sidewalks, that’s their tough luck.

  • Lroi

Yes, Jonathon resigned from his position as gardener in the fall. Since there is not that much to do there in the winter, a new gardener was not hired until recently. Because of the paperwork required with the Dept of Parks, he will be starting in a week or two. Hope he does as well as Jonathon and gets as much cooperation as Jonathon did.

@Tony, there are several issues here. 1: Why are religious organizations allowed special parking privileges? Why not allow PS8 parents to
park wherever they like during school events? 2: According to nyc.gov, clergy parking is allowed– up to 3 cars, up to 5 hours. If there are other rules, what are they? Who arranged them? 3 Even if worshipers are allowed to ignore alternate side rules, parking on the sidewalk is illegal. Again, from what I can see on nyc.gov, it carries a $115 fine and is a towable offense. If they don’t park on the sidewalk, they will slow down traffic. Photographing cars and license plates documents the offenders. People affected by this should call Councilman Levin, the BHA, CB2, Marty Markowitz …
Levin is probably the bravest of the bunch. Otherwise, Henry between Montague and Remsen and its environs might be nicknamed Vatican City West

Can anyone recommend a good gardener for a brownstone backyard? We are not interested in landscaping, but rather pruning and maintenance…with perhaps a bit of sprucing up. Thanks!

  • markintheheights

maybe I missed this question, but anyone know what happened to the parking on Clark street between Henry and Hicks? over night they change the signs to “no standing” for about 2/3s of the block…what gives?

  • Knight

I wrote to Daniel Squadron’s office yesterday asking the very same question. As if parking in the North Heights isn’t challenging enough!!

  • brixtony

Perhaps this is because of the bike rental program? Isn’t that one of the planned stations?

  • mark

that’s what I thought at first, and maybe it is..but the map online shows the station on Clark street at Cadman Plaza…

  • BrooklynBugle

Note there are many comments this week.

  • Brixtony

Great – right outside my buildin
