Reader Report: Pierrepont Playground Pot Bust

Regular BHB commenter “Monty” comments on this week’s Open Thread about some wacky (tabacky) goings on at the Pierrpont Playground on Sunday (2/24) morning. Seems that a couple of gents were reportedly trying to get their mellow on:

Big kerkuffle at Pierrepont playground this morning around 11:30. Strong aroma of marijuana was wafting through the air and someone called the fuzz. They dragged two teenagers and an older guy out of the men’s room. The teens looked terrified and.compliant, but the other guy was yelling and trying to run. Cops needed backup to subdue him. We grabbed our kids and left, but it looked it was under control after a few minutes.

    Older Gentleman was Gerry!

I thought he was in Rome campaigning to be the Pope.

So, where is Gerry anyway? As someone else pointed out, he hasn’t been posting for awhile now.

who smokes pot in a NYC bathroom – that sounds incredibly unpleasant, much like doing anything for more than 20 seconds in a NYC public bathroom. Use the promenade or BK Bridge Park dummies!

  • MonroeOrange

    that’s hilarious!

  • MonroeOrange

lol…i agree…promenade or any block in the heights is much more preferable!

I actually assumed the smell was coming from the promenade. At some point I noticed the smell was really, really strong for a windy day and the cops showed up a minute later.

Sometimes when I smell people smoking pot on the Promenade, I tell them how far away I can smell it—usually 30 to 40 feet away. Then I simply note that *all* smoking on the Promenade is illegal…

The only reason cops make these stupid arrests, which are a total waste of everyone’s time and money, is either 1. overtime, which the city could easily put a stop to, or 2. some crotchety old busybody (e.g. Gerry) complained about the smell. In this neighborhood, I’m going to go with #2.

Willowtown, weren’t these puffers inside the kids-only playground during prime weekend play hours? What mom or dad would want to take a three-year-old into that restroom?

I think you’re saying, “Hey folks, don’t call the cops, get a pair and kick ’em out yourselves.”

  • Monty

I didn’t report it myself because I figured it was kids on the promenade, but this was the bathroom inside the playground. What if my kids had to pee? You think I’m going to confiront them while I’m holding a toddler?

  • willowtowncop

The cops could have kicked them out or written them tickets without anyone having to spend a night in jail.

    NARC!

Better to focus on the nighttime muggings for ipods/iphones, etc than this. A girl friend of mine got punched in the face at the York aveune station the other night. Creepy about the mens room, but not exactly super dangerous.

A far cry from the 80’s-90’s when empty crack vials and beer/liquor bottles littered the playground every morning.
