Brooklyn Heights resident and NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission chairman & commissioner David Yassky got his way Thursday, as his Commission approved a new “e-hail” smartphone app with a 7-0 vote. Yassky wrote in favor of the technology in Wednesday’s New York Daily News.
The app will allows riders to hail cabs with smartphones that alert cabbies of would-be fares in their area. A one-year pilot program will launch Feb. 15, Yassky said in Thursday’s Daily News, adding: “This is not speculative. This is real technology. We can look to other cities and see customers using these products and benefiting from them.”
Several app companies are expected to jump into the New York market, including Hailo, Uber and GetTaxi.
