Boy, it’s been a news-packed past week-plus, huh? And now we potentially welcome the first winter storm of the season… Hurricane Sandy, Election Day drama, the charity of good people, light & dark, water, wind, garbage collection… That should be enough to keep BHB bursting with color on this Open Thread Wednesday. Comment away!

The issue that continues with Obama is that he has no private sector experience. he put Salazar and Chu in charge of Interior and Energy and they have absolutely no energy industry experience. Unfortunately the 47% (plus another 4-5%) don’t care and actually have no clue about these things.

vitriolic political commentary seems so divisive on a blog devoted to the neighborhood that i believe we all love to live in. perhaps there’s a better outlet that doesn’t involve pissing on the lessons taught by mr. rogers.

    Well said, Topham, above.

Has anyone ever bought fish at Peas and Pickles? Was tempted to pick up some shrimp there tonight, but was a little wary.

The very best thing that President Obama had done was to twart Hillary Clinton’s idea of being our President.

Obama made it impossible for the Clintons to return to the White House and for that he will be my hero.

I agree he has been an ineffective president otherwise.

Halstead Brooklyn’s Sandy Supply Drive continues this Saturday and Sunday collecting donations for the Rockaways and other locations in dire need. Donations will be accepted at our Heights office,150 Montague Street from 10 to 5:30 both weekend days. Most of the time our volunteers stay and help deliver the supplies themselves so we are sure they get into the hands and paws of those who need them. Please note, as of this past weekend these locations were no longer accepting clothes, other than gloves hats and scarves. Badly needed are first aid and cleaning supplies, toilet articles, contractor big black bags, batteries, pet food, and cat litter. Please check our office door and this blog for an updated list of specific supplies needed towards the end of the week. Community response has been huge and we thank you for helping us in this effort! If you have a particular question about the drive, email me and I will direct you to the Halstead cooridinator in charge. mblackman@halstead.com. Stay safe!

  • Not Over It

I agree with Over It….you people in the north should recognize a snow job when it’s been in your face for 4 years. Do you all hate this country that much to go through another 4 more years with this guy. What has he done for you so far? Grow up.

So, are the tree trunks breaking and letting the trolls out? Is that where trolls come from? There seems to be a direct link between all the trees falling and the trolls posting tonight.

Now that we have all of this green firewood, who will we burn at the stake first? Lots of candidates out there. Name one, name all.

I pity conservatives who will hunker down inside their bubble of self delusion for the next 4 yrs and wish failure on their extraordinary President. Romney lost because he lied about so much that even a good number of Republicans couldn’t take it anymore. He lost bacause many voters were disgusted with GOP voter suppression efforts . He lost because not all Republicans are ignorant enough to swallow the political swill of Limbaugh, Rove, Hanity, Savage, West, Bachman, Coulter, Trump. etc., etc. He lost because despite efforts to blame the economic catastrophe on the man who merely inherited it and has so far done a decent job to pull us out of it, the GOP could not mask the sad and thinly veiled racism at the core of the Great White Hope’s campaign.

@David Fortunately, “maybe you should kill yourself” commenter lives in NYS where that such a comment is not illegal. New York Penal Code § 125.25 would be applied if, “[t]he defendant’s conduct consisted of causing or aiding, without the use of duress or deception, another person to commit suicide.”

Travy’s comment couldn’t aiding. Clearly it’s Obama winning / Romney losing that’d be the cause. And encouraging or advising suicide is apparently legal here.

As nice as Wikipedia might be, you might want to do a little research before copying and pasting.

  • David on Middagh

Anon, can we be sure that the commenter lives in NY state (or made the comment from NY state)? What if both he and the target happen to be out of state? Some folks do comment from afar.

FWIW, I was mulling over the “no private sector experience charge” about Obama, and came up with this: guy with experience only in military, then retires, goes to teach college, and then is elected President, serves two terms.

    Who? Dwight David Eisenhower.

Never had a job in private sector—but he ran successful campaign against greatest villain of the 20th century.

  • Andrew Porter

And by “successful campaign” I meant Hitler, *not* Adlai Stevenson!

  • Knight

Economically speaking, President Eisenhower served a completely different America than President Obama does.

  • Andrew Porter

So I guess the FACT that he’s another Prez with no “private sector” experience is irrelevant?

And what companies did Lincoln run, eh?
