Jane’s Carousel: Horses Are Fine, Basement Electronics Not So Much

This just in from Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Facebook page about Jane’s Carousel, which was photographed last night surrounded by water (photo: Jen Carlson/Gothamist):

This just in from Jane Walentas: The horses are fine! The wooden Carousel & horses as well as the building, are all fine. Unfortunately, the basement that houses all the electronics was totally flooded, with 5 feet of water. As soon as we can pump it out we’ll assess the damage. We’re optimistic that the Carousel will be fine, but it will probably take some time to get it fully restored to happily prancing again.

Hmmm. Perhaps, since we seem to be having these “100 Year Storms” every couple of years or so (as Gov. Cuomo pointed out this morning) we have to revise our way of thinking. Perhaps this is not the best spot for the Carousel. Perhaps safety, not to mention aesthetics, point to moving it elsewhere. Perhaps only a billionaire can afford to do that.

    Stubborn is as stubborn does.

Google the Asbury Park carousel if you want to see a beautiful building. The horses are gone I think, but it was a classic on the boardwalk area.

    Curmudgeon…

the carousel is amazing right where it is, as well as the building it’s housed in. they’ll pump and fix and it will be fine.
