Open Thread Wednesday: August 15, 2012

It appears that our Brooklyn Heights neighbor on Sidney Place who has dedicatedly maintained an “Obama 08″ bumper sticker in his or her front window for five years is still a believer. Recently, the rez demonstrated ongoing support for the Prez with a 2012 sign placed beside the original. Obama, meanwhile, just celebrated his 51st birthday on August 4. Anyone know of somewhere/one local to replace a mac book battery? Or is the Apple store the only option?

    Thanks.

  • Rick

    @PJL
You could try The Mac Support Store. I’ve never used them but they have some good reviews on Yelp. I think there are 2 locations, here’s one not far away
    :
    168 7th Street, 2nd Floor
    Brooklyn, NY 11215

Hmmmm … I had seen good reviews at the Park Slope location, but for the one above, the reviews were not good. But something as simple as replacing a battery shouldn’t be a problem for them! Anyway, here’s the Park Slope location:

    471 9th St
    (between 7th Ave & 8th Ave)
    Brooklyn, NY 11215
    (917) 338-9557

@HenryLoL – pretty interesting video, thanks for sharing

what is still unclear, though, is: what are our options? and why is Greece the goat? they seem to have a good scheme…

here’s the plan: we’ll set some buildings on fire, hold some protests, shake our fists in the air for the cameras with bandanas covering our faces…. and *POOF* 70% of our $26T debt goes away

that is a savings of: $18T and we create jobs for firefighters, police and cleaning crews

what am I missing here? if Greece can pull it off, America can one-up

but seriously, what are the options for closing the gap? if we haven’t done it since 1940… every elected going to Washington is seeing something the rest of us aren’t – what is it? the holy grail?

I hear you BH’er… I have some ideas, but nobody would like them. It starts wil slowly illiminating programs that cost the most… It’s a hard pill to swallow though.

I guess that would be the military.

Can’t eliminate Medicare or Social Security as those are entitlements. People pay into those their whole lives so take that off the table.

I know people think there is this huge amount of discretionary spending that can just be eliminated but that is not quite accurate.

There is a great graphic that shows where the government spends money. Discretionary Spending accounts for 35% of the budget and more than half of that is Defense spending. Not a whole lot left after you remove that from the equation.

If you click on any of the pie pieces it animates to show the breakdown in more and more detail. Very informative but it shows how hard it can be to reduce the budget if you don’t got after Defense.

With all the churches and synagogues and mosques in BH, let’s have a calm and rational discussion about which is the best religion!

    To use a Nancy Pelosi-ism…
We just need to elect Romney and Ryan because we won’t really know what they’re capable of until they’re in office.
    It worked for Obamacare… touche’.
