Fox 5 NY: Parks Department “Looking into” Plan to Name Park After Adam Yauch

Fox 5 NY’s Heather Brown filed a report this evening confirming that the NYC Parks Department is “looking into” naming a park after Beastie Boy/Brooklyn Heights native Adam “MCA” Yauch who died of cancer earlier this month.

Yesterday, we reported that the BHB community’s effort and Facebook page to rename Squibb Park after the musician and humanitarian was being refocused to support a plan by one of the surviving Beastie Boys, Adam Horovitz, to name the State Street basketball courts (and perhaps adjoining Palmetto Playground) after MCA. Yauch grew up a few blocks away from the park.

Watch the report after the jump.

This woman doesn’t even know how to pronounce his name, even after the guys playing basketball said it correctly.

I tried to distinguish the correct and incorrect pronunciations by listening to the speakers on the video, but I’m still not sure: is it “Yawsh” or “Yowch” (or something else)?

Yawck. That’s how it is pronounced.

  • She’s Crafty

Yowck. That’s better. She was pronouncing it “Youch”

    Thanks.

I’m campaigning to re-rename Cadman Plaza East as Washington Street (which it remains north of the Brooklyn Bridge), and Cadman Plaza West as Fulton Street.
