Sheila, half the fun of BHB is the mental diarrhea!

  • Jorale-man

@Sheila and @David on Midaugh are on to something. The NY Times has a pretty sophisticated comment system where people can “like” comments by others, thus pushing them to the top of the thread. The most relevant/intelligent ones you read first. I wonder if some “democratic” algorithm could be applied here to filter out some of those who come on to argue and get worked up over trivialities.

LOL! Joe- do you really think I would be afraid of a half-man who is unnerved by a man talking on his cellphone every morning? From your ridiculous attempts to provoke people into violence you have clearly indicated a psychotic nature. And you never did deny that you actually ARE a “nosy little twit”. And believe me, that IS the sort of thing I say to people’s faces- I once called a woman AND her baby ugly. Please, it’s not like you’re posting your full name on here either; if your name really IS Joe to begin with- chicken! B-GAWK! ;)

I know this has been addressed before, but god damn is the pharmacy at cvs HORRIFIC.

@Jorale-man: if you’re suggesting a comment system that puts remarks in something other than chronological order you’re likely to face a rebellion! So many people responded negatively to the “nesting of comments” experiment that Homer quickly did away with the practice. Moving popular comments to the top could give some people a breakdown … like TK Small … and me!!

  • David on Middagh

Regarding the main NYT comment system: it was never perfect (pagination killed comprehensive word searches), and they then made it worse (subthreads; newest comments on top by default), but I think they’ve just modified the worse system so it’s somewhat improved over the original not-so-great… I’ve lost track. No, I’m not recommending any system that kills the chronology! It’s the Amazon within-review commenting that’s done pretty well, IMO, tho’ there may be pagination issues there, too. (What is it with putting user-unalterable artificial limits on page lengths on the Web, when web pages can be as long as needed? I love that the BHB threads don’t make you click and click to see the next ten comments. Never change that!)

Another possibility for cell-phone man. He is speaking with his girlfriend every morning and doesn’t want his wife to hear. It’s a good excuse to go for your “daily constitutional” at that hour and not be discovered.

  • Willow St. Neighbor

    lori,
I thought exactly the same thing myself!!!!

Willowbubb, the cvs on Henry? I have never had a problem with them. The staff has always been so helpful and pleasant too. Sorry you have had a different experience. I hope my good fortune doesn’t run out. Maybe it is just a matter of time.

  • willowbubb

jv- yes the one henry. for a very long time it seemed that everything was running smoothly. it isn’t so much the staff being pleasant, it is the incompetence of the staff working mostly behind the pharmacy counter that gets me. I went to pick up my birth control and was handed a medication that I also have filled there but had not asked to be filled for that visit. When I told them it was wrong they told me to come back in 20 mins.. I came back in 20 mins and was again handed the medicine that I did not fill.

This seems like a great time to renew my calls for a “No ad hominem comments” notice near the reply box – seriously, guys… if you want to fight, go to a hockey game!

As for CVS, not sure about the pharmacy, but the front end of that store was not designed very well at all. Most of the cashiers there are so nice, but they’re pulled in 8 different directions: the horrendously problematic self checkout kiosks that never work, the photo center, sales displays and constant needs of our senior residents pull them in every direction.

It’s very frustrating to wait so long in line, but a better store layout would really help. They’re so nice, but have a thankless job!

  • Willow St. Neighbor

    BH’er,
Perhaps there is bad management at CVS. I have often looked around for a manager but could never find one.
There is a phone number on the window in the front of the store and I suggest that anyone who has a complaint call the number or send an e-mail.
I love using the self-checkouts but one day two out of the three were not working because customers start a transaction and then walk away before it is completed. Because they are short staffed, it takes awhile before they can find someone with authority to clear the machines.
These days we are all asked to do more on our jobs and it is obvious wherever I go that that is the case.

  • BH’er

Willow St Neighbor: I completely agree with your comments – the management is never anywhere to be found (and rarely helpful when they do appear)

The self-checkout kiosks are really terrible and a huge distraction to cashiers. I’ve waited in the cashier line numerous times only to wait for the one cashier on duty to go babysit customers and help them checkout. They should really just dump those things – it takes longer and aggravates everyone in line!

I will look for that number and give them a call. It’s really a terrible set up and I avoid going there because of it.

It’s too bad for the cashiers, too. It’s not their doing, but they are the ones who have to bear the customers’ ire for what is a terrible operation.
