Anyone else on Columbia Heights between Clark and Pierrepont feel their building shake? I notice it mostly when I’m sitting or laying down. Can’t decide if it’s the Subway (I lean heavily towards this) or the BQE.

  • GHB

I do. I’m pretty sure it’s the BQE. Those trucks can make a racket! I’ve been hearing similar complaints from people living on lower floors. Have you noticed it more recently?

  • DBofBKHeights

It’s been pretty consistent since I moved in to my apartment 2 years ago. Everyday has a little shaking, sometimes enough to make my glasses clink together! California can eat my shorts!

I’m on that exact block and can’t say that I’ve ever felt the building shake. Sorry.

If you are on the even side of Columbia Hts, that situation has been a problem for many years – not so much on the “odd” side.

  • AnnieOakley

We’re on the same block as you — on the “odd” side as Lori says — and yes, we definitely feel it. I’d say it happens more so than it used to (and we’ve also been here 2 years). Our glasses clink too. Always assumed it was the BQE since the trains are farther down.

  • RF

I’m on that block, close to Clark, on the odd side. I can feel the subway and have noticed other shaking recently. I can tell the difference because the subway has a predictable duration.

Who is going to be held resposible when one of the buildings on Columbia Heights comes tumbling down from all this shaking? It seems most noticeable in early AM (around 6) when traffic is lighter on the BQE and the trucks are hitting high speeds.
What agency should be handling this problem before irt turns into a catastrophe?

You do realize that buildings are constructed for a high amount of movement. I’m pretty sure that some trucks moving at 70mph will not make a building fall.

Can anyone recommend a good realtor for the lower Heights? My partner and I are looking to sell our 1BR place in a co-op near Sidney Place. Thanks for any recs!

An inconsequential website known as Facebook has informed me that today is Homer’s birthday. Happy Birthday Homer!

Q – Brown Stevens has sold a number of units in our building. Everyone I spoke with who has dealt with them had good things to say. AVOID CORCRAN!

When I was a young guy nearly 20 years ago long before cell phones and email I used that phone to conduct my business whlile waiting for the telephone company to hook up my phone service in my new apartment on Remsen Street. From that phone I would call my mother new to the big city I let her know how I was doing.

    Q,
I dealt with Michael Coleman at Corcoran. He is very experienced. I will use him again when we sell our coop in a few years when we retire.

    Happy Birthday, Homer Fink!

I cast my vote for Tutt!

Has anyone had the “Hangover Breakfast” at the Chip Shop?? I was thinking about taking my dear husband there this weekend for a birthday brunch. Any good? And does anyone know if they serve black pudding/blood pudding/blood sausage?? Gracias!

  • Tclinton11201

yes to the pudding. good brunch fair overall (with the little english breakfast sweet beans…). Happy BDay to Homer and soon enough to your husband!

  • RemsenGal

So many thanks to you for the kind reply! (I am selfishly looking forward to a delicious bite of pudding, lol) And indeed, happy birthday to Homer as well as my old man!

  • Monty

Tutt is tastier for sure. In fact, it’s possibly my favorite pizza in the neighborhood and all the middle-eastern stuff is a bonus. I also really like Fatoosh and they are a better value. You can get a nice platter of grilled meat with a pile of rice, grilled veggies, hummus and muhamarra. For the same price, Tutt gives you meat, some salad and a tiny portion of hummus.

  • AEB

Ditto, Homer! Now how many is it–huh, huh?

  • Heightsman

Folks – it’s the subway not the trucks. I have lived here for 13 years (CH btw Clark and Pierre.) and long ago ignored the 2/3 training rumbling. It’s strong in the AM because it’s rush hour. Man up everyone.
