Another Car Crash, Hicks and Montague

This was the scene at the corner of Hicks and Montague streets at about 9:00 p.m. A witness said that a man and a woman were taken from the scene of the crash in handcuffs. There were trucks set up for a movie shoot on Hicks between Montague and Pierrepont, but we were told this had nothing to do with the movie. DEVELOPING.

Update: The Post has the story. Still no indication of with what the couple were charged. Thanks to reader Virginia for the link.

As best I know, this was the termination of a pursuit that originated across the border in the 76.

My wife was standing on Joralemon and Hicks and saw much of this right before the crash. She said it was a police chase. The car that crashed had only three wheels when she saw it turn quickly onto Hicks from Joralemon, kicking out sparks from the missing wheel well.

She said both plain clothed and uniformed cops were in close pursuit. She saw/heard the crash a few blocks up in front of the Heights Cafe. As she walked up Hicks to the scene, she said one man and one woman were arrested on the scene and taken away in handcuffs.

And yes, all this happened as a large movie crew were shooting scenes on Hicks near Joralemon/Montague. Sometimes real life is even more exciting than the movies.

I watched this police chase end – standing next to Jason Bateman! This was definitely not an “accident” – it was definitely a police chase. It was pretty scary when they got the guy, because he wouldn’t put his hands up and from where I was standing it looked like there was going to be a shooting. Eventually they got the guy down and seemed to be beating him (that’s what it sounded like) and then they cuffed him, searched him and threw him in the car. A few minutes later they arrested a woman in another crashed car on Hicks street around the corner. So much action on what would have otherwise been a quiet night!

My kid told me about this at 8:30 last night, and when I called them them the 84th told me it was the movie shoot! It did seem strange for what I thought would be, pardon the expression, a “chick flick/bromance.” I must however point out that I emailed Homer first.

Apparently people on the sidewalk were photographing the chase –!!!?? I suppose they thought it was a movie shoot too!

Interesting news story in the Post… funny how it mentions the car had two flat tires but said nothing of the fact that is was missing a wheel!

The picture here, as well as in the Post story, show the car missing the right front tire! What is the world happened on that police chase?

    And where’s the missing wheel??

That’s quite a long chase. I wonder what led them to Brooklyn Heights?

This is not directly related but it seems there’s a good case to be made for speed bumps in our neighborhood. Not that they would have slowed down these people but it might help rein in other speeders on streets like Hicks and Clinton.

Jorale-man, they were probably heading for Great Wall.
