As a kid, I remember my mom gabbing on the phone with her friends as she tended to us kids, fixed snacks, dinner, etc.

Now, her phone had a cord attached and it’s a bit different when you’re out and about in traffic, etc.

We could all spend less time on our phones and I’d be irate if my hired help was chatting with her friends when she was supposed to be working (imagine your favorite barista chatting on her cell while you were trying to order your venti latte)

Your nanny may need a no-cell-phone policy to keep everyone happy

    @Sonny
Those are not Nannys you are seeing. They are untrained, uneducated, underpaid, domestic workers.
If you are concerned about your baby being well cared for, taught good manners and good English, hire a professional. It isn’t cheap, but this is your child.
I’ve had wonderful experience with women from Poland.

    PromGal,
You hit the nail on the head.
    Well said.

  • WillowtownCop

@ Promgal- sounds like they are OVERpaid if they aren’t doing their job and putting children in danger.

Jakes BBQ is the best BBQ around. Great burgers too. Been ordering or picking up from them for years!

The unwashed armpit smell in the frozen food aisle is back at the Key Food on Montague. They should have a bin of free clothespins at the door.

Has anyone noticed in the last couple of weeks that internet service from Time Warner has slowed down drastically? Taking forever to load pages. AARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!

About the lost wedding ring, does anybody have the name and number on the flyer. I heard of one that was found on Pier 6.

GHB — For the past couple of months, I have noticed TWC Internet slowing down; when I called them, I got the routine “no one else has complained” or “go ahead and unplug your modem.” Then someone recommended I clear cookies; I did, and that does seem to have helped a bit (just make sure you remember all of your user names/passwords, because they will be gone from everywhere).
My other problem with TWC is the preposterously poor cable service — channels take forever to switch, video/audio freezes, some channels won’t load, etc, etc. But, hey — it’s only $160+ per month and increasing almost monthly. I’m way beyond AARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Sonny – suggest you join the Brooklyn Heights Parents yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Brooklynheightsparents/

A recent post on this thread led me to order Jake’s BBQ through Seamless tonight. Can’t say I’m a fan, and my search for better than tolerable cue in NYC continues (Blue Smoke excepted).

    Here’s my Yelp review: http://mattparker.yelp.com

Anyone know why we just had a fireworks display? They weren’t very loud, but enough to make me take notice.

Perhaps it had something to do with Veterans Day?

damn willow, all I was saying was if there was a description like ” gold band” or Silver with Diamond… sometimes descriptions help. Why is everyone so quick to jump down each others throats on this blog?

  • Daffy Duck

Isn’t there some sort of consumer protection standard for cable service and some sort of standards for (constant) rate increases?

Or has something else in City government gone array?

  • Willow St. Neighbor

    i,
    Sorry if I offended you.

  • GHB

Bornhere, thanks for your insight. I’ve had similar problems with TW cable tv… channel getting stuck. Unplugging the cable box works, but it’s really a pain and takes time to reset. I’ve never really had problems with them until recently. Oh well…

TWC vs FIOS – so far, contest. FIOS is faster, cheaper, more dependable, more movies, great DVR, and a better remote.

    Stay tuned….
