Weekend Subway Diversions

With one big exception, things will be pretty much normal on the subway lines serving Brooklyn Heights this weekend. The 2, 3, A, C, F, and R will all be making their usual stops in both directions at Clark, High, Jay, and Court street stations, respectively. You should know, though, that Brooklyn bound F trains will be skipping the 23rd and 14th Street stations in Manhattan, and Brooklyn bound R trains will be skipping the 28th, 23rd, 8th, and Prince Street (but not 14th Street) stations. The 2, 3, A, and C (but not the 4 or 5; see below) provide alternative service to the Heights from near these locations.

The big exception is that there will be no 4 train service between the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall station in Manhattan and anyplace in Brooklyn. This means no service at all on the “Lex” line at Borough Hall (the 5 doesn’t run to or from Brooklyn on weekends, ever). For service to downtown Manhattan, use the 2, 3, A, C, F, or R. For service to the East Side above 14th Street, take the R to 14th and change there for an uptown 4 or 6 local. For service into Brooklyn, use the 2 or 3 (3 service will be extended to New Lots Avenue).

How can you say that “things will be pretty much normal” when there is no 4 service? Unless of course this post is intended to be sarcastic, as in the acronym SNAFU.

I almost didn’t read past the initial sentence! One demerit for the BHB which is generally consistently reliable.

I started the post with the words, “With one big exception…”. I think most readers would take that as a signal to read further.
