Brooklyn Heights Artist Brightens Up Bay Ridge Subway

The NY Daily News reports on Brooklyn Heights resident/artist Amy Bennett, known mostly for small paintings, who has created a huge glass mosaic for the 86th Street subway station in Bay Ridge:

NY Daily News: Artist Amy Bennett, 33, spent the past year working on the $100,000 mosaic that will transform the waiting area of the 86th St. R subway station when it is completed in April.

The 45-foot artwork will be the finishing touch on a $13.8 million renovation of the 95-year-old station, which also got new tiles and a rebuilt ventilation system.

Creating the giant artwork wasn’t easy for Bennett, who specializes in highly detailed 10-inch oil paintings of landscapes.

“This piece of art was definitely the biggest creative challenge of my life so far,” said Bennett, of Brooklyn Heights, whose tiny paintings can fetch prices of up to $30,000 each.
