MSM on BHA and BHB

In addition to BHB’s crack team coverage of the Brooklyn Heights Association’s Annual Meeting last night, Brooklyn’s “mainstream media” was also on hand.

The Brooklyn Eagle’s Sam “the next Carl Bernstein” Newhouse eloquently recounts Diane Ravitch’s passionate speech about the state of the American education system. More importantly, he mentions us:

Brooklyn Eagle: John Loscalzo, the founder and publisher of the Brooklyn Heights Blog (under the alias of Homer Fink), accepted the award for “unifying and supporting the neighborhood” with the blog’s comments section, where locals can chat online.

“I’d like to thank my wife — my wife always said that if I ever get anything, to thank her, so…” Loscalzo said after accepting his award. He also live-tweeted the entire meeting at twitter.com/bkheightsblog with jokes about the speakers and comments on issues under discussion.

Speaking of award winners… the “Award Winning” Brooklyn Paper was on hand as well. The paper’s editorial czar/playwright Gersh Kuntzman summarizes the evening’s events – Ravitch’s speech, BHA budget announcement, P.S. 8 kids need your vote in NatGeo contest – and most importantly covers us. Yes, the Gershmeister General was shocked and awed and we think he might be angling for us to buy him a sammy from Zam’s:

Brooklyn Paper: But the highlight of the night came earlier when Brooklyn Heights Blog Publisher Homer Fink was honored for “outstanding community service.”

A blogger winning an award for “outstanding community service”?

Have pigs taken flight?

Certainly not. Look, we may be his biggest competitor, but Fink — whose real name, John Loscalzo, was revealed to his many readers at the ceremony — does a great job with his blog.

That said, he’d be nothing without us, and our free copy — nothing, we tell you!
