Master thespian/nabe resident Paul Giamatti turns 41 today. In his career, the actor has played many memorable roles – “Miles” in Sideways, Harvey Pekar in the biopic American Splendor, “Pig Vomit” in Howard Stern’s Private Parts (today is coincidentally the real Pig Vomit’s birthday as well), and most recently starring as John Adams in the eponymous HBO mini-series.

Giamatti is the son of former Major League Baseball commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti. He graduated from Yale University in 1989 and is reportedly a member of Skull & Bones a secret society made up of the school’s students and alumni.

The actor has been very busy lately with 5 films in the pipeline:The Owl in Daylight , Duplicity , The Last Station , The Haunted World of El Superbeasto , and Cold Souls according to IMDB.

Happy Birthday, Neighbor!

Was CBS News there to cover the party?

My favorite Giamatti film is “Safemen,” a lesser-known comedy with Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Mark Ruffalo, Harvey Fierstein, and Michael Lerner. Directed by John Hamburg (Along Came Polly and Meet the Fockers) it’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time and only recently came out on DVD. It’s about two hapless safecrackers, the Jewish mafia, the Stanley Cup, a Bar Mitzvah, and the thread trade. And it’s a love story. :) Giamatti plays the inimitable Veal Chop, a henchman of sorts for the Jewish gangster, Big Fat Bernie Gayle. Recommended.
