BHB to be Honored at BHA Annual Meeting Monday Night

The Brooklyn Heights Association will hold its annual meeting 7:30pm Monday (2/28) night at Plymouth Church (Orange Street between Hicks and Henry). As previously reported, Brooklyn Heights resident Diane Ravitch will be the guest speaker. She’ll also be autographing her book The Death and Life of the Great American School System which will be on sale at the meeting.

Also, we’re flattered that the BHA will be awarding Brooklyn Heights Blog and founder/publisher John “Homer Fink” Loscalzo with an award for Outstanding Community Service. We’re also humbled that we share that distinction this year with the valiant members of the Riverside Tenants Association.

As usual, Qfwfq and Homer will be LIVE BLOGGING the event here and via Twitter (@bkheightsblog).

Homer: please resist the urge to do a Melissa Leo in your acceptance speech.

I would like to raise the issue of the CAFR’s at the BHA meeting.
Every time I hear that municipalities have expended thier
financial limits, I suggest everyone simply access information
on the Billions $ hidden in the Comprehensive Annual
Financial Reports (CAFR’s) This is an aspect the NGO types
never, ever, address. Also, if local or state governments are in serious trouble, why cant the BANKING community do some small debt modification? Why are the banks NEVER a part of the discourse?

I would like to be allowed to stand up and openly ask those two questions at the BHA meeting…..
