NBC Hypes New Show by Putting Capes on Brooklyn Statues

NBC, hoping that people will tune in to their new action show The Cape has worked out a deal with the city to drape capes on high profile statues in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The network shelled out a $120k donation for public arts to the NYC Parks Department for the privilege. The Christopher Columbus statue near Borough Hall (photo: Daily News) got the treatment yesterday (the promotion goes through Sunday when the show premieres) and the NY Daily News was there to get some truly fascinating commentary from the public:

NY Daily News: “I have a problem with Columbus,” said Watts, 21, of Morrisania, Bronx. “To me he’s not a hero, because of all the killing that followed.”

Other onlookers said the makeover boosted Columbus’s image.

“It’s kind of attractive and it makes him look kind of dashing,” said retired marketer Henry Cateurra, 85 of Brooklyn Heights. “It certainly attracted my eye.”
