Retired Wall Street investor/Brooklyn Heights resident Ted Shen is spending his golden years as an angel investor in, of all things, musical theater. Bloomberg interviewed him at his Columbia Heights townhouse:
Bloomberg: Muse Arts:In an interview at their Brooklyn Heights townhouse, the Shens said they seek theater music with “an advanced harmonic sensibility'' that provokes astonishment and surprise. They're not interested in popular music.
“If you're writing in a pop vein,'' Ted Shen said, “you're intentionally trying to present music that will have familiarity. And that's commercial Broadway. That's not the way Stephen Sondheim writes. And it's not the way people who want to achieve the state of the art write.''
