135 Joralemon: What’s That Thud?

Brownstoner reports today that the little house that could's price has been slashed… again. The humble home at 135 Joralemon was lovingly restored by local contractor Howard Haimes after it had been damaged by fire under its previous owner.  The Brooklyn Heights Association featured it on its Spring House Tour last year.

Purchased pre-reno for $2.4 million, it was originally listed at $5.95 million, then cut to $5.25 million and slashed to $4.95 million today.

When I lived on this block, neighbors referred to this house as the “Patty Duke House,” claiming it was used for exteriors on the old Patty Duke Show (“But Patty’s only seen the sights/a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights”). I’ve never seen this mentioned anywhere else. Small-scale urban legend?

My kids call it the Haunted House, because it was a burned out shell for a year, and a decrepit mess for a decade before that. Maybe it hasn’t sold because it still seems a little bit scary.
