Whew! Runnin' late… soundin' great….

This week, a few ideas from "No One of Consequence" to get you thinkin':

Gristedes: They're moving everything around on the shelves. It's so confusing. I haven't yet been able to figure out the logic behind the new product locations. Not that the store was very well organized before, but this somehow seems worse. Maybe I'm just getting old and resisting change.

The scaffolding (technically "Sidewalk Bridge") is being removed from Pineapple Walk.

I’ve never used a credit card in Gristede’s, so I guess it’s back to the drawing board.

poohster have you use it at the liquor store?

  • nick

could it be that more than one place is involved

‘The’ liquor store? Yes. But I believe this involves more than one place.

I noticed that Gristede’s always does the “double swipe” on the register and the credit card machine. I first noticed it after discussion on these boards about looking out for the double swipe. I guess the fact that it’s both a chain and done at every register. (I’ve had it happen at the separate register by the film, etc… and regular registers.) It seems as if Gristede’s is the culprit it’s way too out in the open and you’d imagine/hope it’s something that the corporation wouldn’t let one store get away with. However, I used to exclusively use my Visa at Gristede’s because I was unsure if they took Discover or not and it was my Visa that was compromised. Fortunately I almost never shop there…as the term “Grosstede’s” is certainly accurate. Guess in the future better to be safe than sorry & just go with cash.

I use my card there all the time and have to fraudulent charges.
I think the double swipe they do is because they have a POS POS system.

this issue is not unique to brooklyn heights — it’s happening all over. just google “debit card” + “gas” + “florida” this is a major problem. it happened to me today, but luckily my bank caught it before the charges (yes, gas in florida) were even posted to my account.
there is an article from the nat’l credit union association’s website back from december 07, indicating that a ring of 18-debit card scammers were arreseted in montreal — gas station and convenience store clerks were charged with stealing the numbers. the worst part is that all the scammers apparently need is your 16-digit card number…if you think about how often we give away our cards every day, ugh! grim….
i’m all for a neighborhood commiseration session, uniting forces and taking a stand against this nonsense!

I received a call today from the fraud department of my bank to tell me that law enforcement had notified them that my account had been “compromised”. Apparently no one had yet tried to use the card, but the account info had turned up on a list somewhere. Perhaps someone was busted?

btw – I’ve never shopped at Gristedes, but use the card frequently at other neighborhood businesses.
