@Vela – they probably thought you brought in the stroller to donate and then abandoned it because they don’t take baby items.

@tb – “major malfunction” – are you serious – that’s funny. are you a marine?

  • since47

Vela: I’m sure if you’d left your wallet, those at Housing Works would have held it for you, or contacted you for its safe return. But because they’re ‘not allowed to accept baby items,’ and because they probably thought the stroller was left as a donation – (in such a crammed space, who’d forget to take their stroller?) – they put it out on the street. I’m sorry you no longer have the stroller, but I don’t think Housing Works is at fault.

Sorry, Josh – being from the ‘Post THEN READ’ school, I pretty much parroted your comment.

Mr B – I agree with the other posters, it is a crap shoot. I have left the car in the afternoon about a half hour before the change-over and gotten a ticket. I have almost never seen a traffic cop while sitting in my car, however.

    20 Henry Street Parking:
Has anyone fought a parking ticket from in front of 20 Henry St. yet? I saw the Temporary Construction sign but parked past the barricades and past the next sign post with the alternate side sign hidden by the scaffolding. In theory, that should mark the end of the No Parking zone. I requested a hearing by mail for the ticket and got an offer of a reduced fine ($40 from $70) or to wait and have a judge review my ticket. If it goes against me I have to pay the full fine. Has anyone else done this? Did you get a judgment yet?
    Thanks!

I hit the Calexico cart over at Brooklyn Bridge Park … AWESOME! I went with the pulled pork burrito, which was out of this world (and dare I say, I enjoyed it more than the Red Hook huarachas and papusas). Also tried the Lobster Roll at the Red Hook Lobster Pound the next day, which was quite good, but hardly worth the $18.50 (including chips and a drink).

Re: AltSidePark, the ticket that I got on Grace Court was issued by agents in an unmarked car, who would also scan regristration stickers for outstanding violations. In other words, it’s not always the browies who will catch you, so be warned.

As you know Reggie, #24 is a very famous house here in the Heights but I believe Adrienne is incorrect. That house was built in 1829 (seen this date in many different sources) which would not make it the oldest. Even nabeguy’s house is older than that.

Okay, I go away from the blog for a few hours and come back and there is a completely different layout. Say it ain’t so!

Constructive criticism #1 I miss the old masthead/photograph.

Constructive criticism #2 The comments take up too much space on the screen.

But as they say, “change is good” so perhaps I will get used to it someday.

  • nabeguy

That should read “brownies” in case you were wondering.

  • nabeguy

T.K., I think that the comments were enlarged for us aging boomers with tri-focals. I, for one, appreciate it, And, just think, now I can make foolish comments in a new and improved font size!
I like the REPLY function…it allows you to trash your own post before anyone else can.
Still miss Mr. J in the margins.

$18.50??? What happened to $15.00 about a month ago?

  • hoppy

I love the reply function to individual posters also. Now if we can only upload avatars….

@hoppy Gravatars — have at it:

Is the site different? Love it. love.

Wunderbar! Now, will I get my own little image when I post this? Can I have ball-fringe instead?

  • Karl Junkersfeld

I’ve been demoted. I must of got sunk by the kayak film.

    It’s back up…. for now.

Anyone see the cop car going the wrong way on Montague St. last night followed by a couple of guys who looked like they had just gotten interrupted playing soccer? Any details? They were clearly chasing somebody.

  • nabeguy

Aha, there he is! Right above Mr. Giamatti, exactly where he should be.

  • Monty

New design is pretty good I think although I agree that the fonts are a bit too large. I also tried the Calexico cart and had the carne asada burrito. I was very much underwhelmed. It was fine, but the flavor was very bland.

  • anon

I don’t like the new design–tooo Cobble Hill bloggish.

Now I have to read the entire comments thread for anything new (and have to try and remember what I read) as opposed to just going to the bottom of the list and working my way back up.

Mike – i got ticketed there a few months back. I decided to take the reduced fine (think it was a $60 down to a $40) rather than play the contest game. I did take pics and was ready to make the case, but what a hassle! I was pleased to see Karl’s piece on this entrapment area a few weeks ago, and the resulting local news piece was right on the mark. A few days later, I mildly scolded two traffic officers at the sight as they were scribing two tickets without regard to the fact that this trap zone was indeed now being exposed.

    Homer

Go back to chronological listing, please. Or give us the option. Comment boxes too big. Move “Reply” button to first line of type.

    Thanks

  • tb

do we all get our own little designs?

  • tb

    ok, no. but cute.

  • T.K. Small

I completely echo and endures the comments of “AL”.

  • T.K. Small

Damn voice recognition. My last comment should have read “endorse”.

  • harumph

Gotta say, I can’t stand the comment area with the designs – harder to read…the main pages look nice, but IMHO the comment section could be simplified

I used to live in the West Vill where sitting in your car through Alt Side Parking was a way of life. People play instruments, read their NYT, drink their coffee and do the ballet dance when the street cleaner comes. You had to sit in your car there. Here, I love the 8-6 option because suddenly I’m freed up from sitting in the car! Never seen anyone getting ticketed on a 8-6 street, but have seen folks get tickets on the no parking for 1.5 hours streets when they haven’t moved their car or gotten out early. Due to folks on here saying that isn’t always the case, I’ll be more vigilant moving forward.
