Scandal! Sahadi’s Dumps Glass Jars

This week’s Brooklyn Paper sheds light on what can only be seen as a conspiracy against tradition:

Brooklyn Paper: Jarring Change…: Customers at Sahadi’s, Brooklyn’s primary stop on the Near Eastern spice route, are still fuming that the grocer has replaced the classic glass jars with generic plastic containers in the nuts, dried fruits and candies section.

“Everyone is talking about it,” said Charlie Sahadi, the second-generation owner. “No one likes change less than me,” but “my concern is about my customers, not about my jars.”

I dont think he’ll be losing customers or anything. he could have tried to get some plastic lining on the jars(i’ve seen some with that, it buffers the glass on glass crime), I wish I knew what they did with the jars, i would have taken a couple for the home.

If it means no glass chips in the candy, I guess it’s OK. I just wish they’d figure out a way to keep customer’s grimy mitts out of the olives!

I asked, and one of the guys in that department said the change was because kids had been playing with the lids and breaking them, despite pleas to parents who say “he won’t break it.” So if you’re really upset about it, blame the little rugrats.

No, it’s not the kids at fault, it’s the parents.

    I stand corrected.

I think that instead of people be complaining about the ‘glass jars’. all the customer of sahadis including me, should ask the owner of that great place that pls tell the employes to be a little more friendly oriented…..Because believes me those guys are a pain in the you know where……….
