Theater 1010, under the artistic direction of Heights resident Judith Jarosz, will present Innocent Diversions, a Christmas Entertainment with Jane Austen and Friends, beginning with a preview performance this Friday evening, November 16, and continuing through Sunday, December 16 (the photo above shows a scene from the 1998 production of this play). A complete performance schedule is here. The play, written and directed by Lynn Marie Macy, is based on this premise:
It is December, 1803. Join Miss Jane Austen and her family & friends, who have arrived at Manydown Park, the Hampshire estate of the Bigg-Wither family, for a Christmas celebration. At the persistent urging of her hosts, Jane has consented to be Mistress of Ceremonies and preside over their Holiday theatricals, which are to highlight her own outrageously funny early writings.
The part of Jane Austen will be played by Karen Eterovich, and Ms. Jarosz will play her sister, Cassandra. Set design is by Ms. Jarosz's husband, David Fuller. Tickets may be purchased through Theatermania or by calling 212-352-3101 or 866-811-4111 (toll free). Theater 1010 is located at 1010 Park Avenue, between 84th and 85th Streets, in Manhattan.
