The Brooklyn Eagle reports nabe resident Phil Asby an "artist and paralegal" is leading a movement to build a 9/11 memorial on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Both Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and the Brooklyn Heights Association's Judy Stanton have been "approached" with the idea according to the paper. It adds that Asby has contacted Brit artist Anthony Caro to design the proposed structure.
The choice of Caro is interesting at the very least. The 82 year old artist is best known for his works comprised of twisted steel, including his 1963 exhibit at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London (left). His latest works have been large, installation pieces in cities around the world including Tokyo and Venice.
