Opera Afloat at Red Hook

Today's Times arts section features a story by Melena Ryzik (see here) about the production of Puccini's one act opera Tabarro being staged by the Vertical Player Repertory, in conjunction with PortSide New York, on the retired oil tanker Mary A. Whelan, docked at Red Hook.  Heights native Judith Barnes plays Giorgetta, a longshoreman's wife involved in a fatal love triangle; Christian Sebek plays Luigi, her lover; and her husband, Michele is played by Zurab Ninua.

Remaining performances, all of which begin at sundown (approximately 7:00 P.M.) are tomorrow (Sunday, September 9), Friday, September 14 and Sunday, September 16.  Tickets for the opera only are $25 per person; for $60 you can have the opera and also attend a pre-performance wine and food reception that begins each evening at 5:00.  Tickets may be purchased through this website, which also gives directions to the dock where the opera is performed.
