A pair of robberies at a department store top this week’s police blotter.
It seems that robbers have been staking out the Macy’s shoe department, with two robberies in two weeks.
On January 27, a robber grabbed a woman’s purse containing $150 in cash, and iPod and a digital camera from the back of a chair as she was trying on a pair of shoes. A week later, a purse containing $25 was taken from a bench in the shoe department on February 6 around 6 p.m.
A subway thief with a knife stole $75 by cutting the side of a woman’s purse on an F train near the Jay Street/Borough Hall station.
A perp stole a briefcase containing a laptop from an unlocked office in a building on Court Street between State and Schermerhorn streets on January 26 around 5 p.m.

After the Comstat scandal this week, is this blotter to be trusted? Still haven’t seen anything about the car-crashing drug arrests from 2 weeks ago. You’d think Brooklyn North would want to brag about that one.
I’m always intrigued by the locations of these crimes. The majority appear to happen in downtown more than Brooklyn Heights proper. Perhaps not a surprise given that there’s more commercial business from Court Street eastward, but I’d also think there’s more wealth in the Heights for criminals to go after.
Actually Jorale, there’s more than enough muggings and car incidents in the Heights for me, thanks..
I noticed a woman raptly editing photos at the CVS on Henry Street, her purse on the floor next to her. Approached her and noted that I might be paranoid, but she really should be holding it in her lap. She complied.
Better safe than sorry…
