Guy Fawkes Image Appears on Henry Street
This image of what appears to be Gunpowder Plot icon Guy Fawkes popped up in the window of 60 Henry Street. Anglophiles will note that Guy Fawkes Night was this past Thursday (11/5).

I can’t actually say I agree that this looks like Guy Fawkes - is there something that further identifies it?
Guy Fawkes “celebrations” should probably be forgotten. While very old and traditional, the celebrations are nothing more than institutionalized anti-Catholicism! Pity they still go on and re-enforce the idea that Catholics in England are not quite English or patriotic. Tony Blair, who converted to Catholicism after he left office, said he doubted even today that a Catholic could ever be Prime Minister. Of course, Catholics can never marry into the Royal Family. Personally, I doubt this kind of event would still be celebrated if it concerned another religion besides Catholicism.
