Pool Comes to Beach

Confirming Harry Hawk's comment, while taking my morning walk sauna on the Promenade, I noticed that The Floating Pool Lady had been moved from her previous berth between Piers 2 and 3 to a new spot adjacent to the artificial beach.

Does anyone know the best way to get down there? I was thinking you need to walk to down to Fulton Ferry Landing and take a left on Furman St. — is there a more direct route?

Walk straight down Joralemon, and you’ll be there.

Depends on which end of the Heights you’re on, but either way will get you there, although you need to take a right at the bottom of Joralemon. On the other hand, the quickest way would be to build a diving board off the Promenade!

Maybe it’s moving into position for the 4th?

Why is the pool across from the Promenade and why do we need one? who will use it?

    N.H.
    1. Because that’s where the water is
    2. Because it’s hot
    3. Everybody

Thanks, nabeguy– EVERYONE is right!!! A floating half-olympic-sized pool on the water with a view of the skyline is absolutely wonderful!!!! …I really, really have trouble understanding how or why folks have any objection.

beach lady, your guess is as good as mine. Aquaphobia perhaps? Too bad it’s only half Olympic sized…I really think this is going to be a huge hit!

I was very much looking forward to this, but, after visiting the area this weekend, Im now on the fence. The area was very dirty with old industrial waste (rusty pipes, beams, old tires, etc.) I hope they clean it up.

Eric is right. It’s a dumpy area. I live around the corner and am not even thinking about “relaxing” at a pool that is either underneath or on a side of a highway. BQE is way too noisy. Give me Brighton Beach or Coney Island.
Also, due to construction, there is a severe rat problem down there.

Thanks CS for the heads up on the rats…

Well, Water Taxi Beach is fun… Schnack has the food concession, the pool will open from 11-7 pm in 1.5 hour sessions, there will be volleyball & soccer on the sand beach they’ve imported. Rats need fun too! Did I mention deck chairs & it’s all FREE?
