Somebody’s got to wade into the “dog wars” thing. Mary Frost did a great article – are the Eagle’s owners finally pushing back about BHB’s “stealing its intellectual property relentlessly?” – about the attempt(s) to change behavior early this week. The comments smack of red state-blue state hostility, but the one man arrested made the rookie mistake of laughing at the POlice.
What gets me is that the dog owners haven’t moved en masse – maybe, they yet will – to the neighboring “Whitman” park, the one between the “back-up Mayor’s Office and a giant Federal Court building. Grass aplenty and “no competition” or use of space altogether incompatible with dogs relieving themselves.
I’m one of many who got a ticky-tack bike summons the ONE day the 84th ticked some box that they were taking related complaints seriously. Maybe, they’ll surprise me – and (I’ll bet) dog-owners – by doing some randomly scheduled policing in this connection. If they had brains, they’d probably use an occasional plain clothesed officer!

Apparently the story has gone viral, as it were, with coverage by Channel 5 and other media outlets. And the Eagle article has received more than 20 comments!
The Brooklyn Eagle appreciates it whenever BHB links to our articles! We have a great relationship which brings stories from both of our sites to more folks in the community. (And unlike Fox and other outlets, BHB always links back to our website.)

Thanks for that. I’m glad that – as you see it – each of the 2 parties derives some benefit…. And I really SHOULD have observed that the “Eagle version,” not surprisingly, is generally WAY more detailed.
We’re lucky indeed (if, of course, your last name is a synonym for “chill”) that you cover our neighborhood.

“Nomcebo Manzini,” you are marginally more pleasant when posting as “Mike Suko” or the 3 or 4 other names you’ve tried to use on this Blog. You’re like someone who goes back to the same restaurant again and again, each time complaining about the food and insulting the chef and the staff. You’ve been condescending, whiny, rude, dismissive, and lecturing to the Blog’s writers in the comments for quite a long time. But, accusing us of stealing and plagiarizing is a new low. As I’ve said to you before, if you’re so unhappy with this Blog, find another to read or start your own. Take some initiative, Nomcebo! đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź

Keep ticketing. Remind dog owners to curb your dog. End of story, no one likes stepping in crap.

My namesake street gets a little more…interesting…every day. The Medical Arts Building appears to have a full-time security guard out front now. Wonder what he’s watching for…

there was a violent arrest of two black girls between 3-4pm on Tuesday that my friend got video of. We cannot find out what happened and we are just trying to figure out who to connect with. Anyone know anything? it was at Fulton Mall and Red Hook Lane.

Possibly an abortion clinic has opened?
Jorale-man
I was thinking more like a methadone or drug treatment facility. It seems to be a heavily male clientele outside.

Don’t you have anything better to do than to spout off about things you know nothing about? Ive worked with both publications. BHB would never reproduce n Eagle story with enough detail for you I suppose because that would be copyright infringement. Their stories are “more detailed” because they are exactly that, their stories. Blog links to them and they link to us. Why don’t you let us worry about our relationship with the paper and whether not it is “mutually beneficial.” It’s none of your business to begin with.
“Curb your dog” is not the actual law. Under N.Y.S. Pub. H. L. 1310, dog owners are required to pick up after the dog, but the dog is otherwise allowed to poop on “any sidewalk, gutter, street or other public area.”
Mary
Thanks! (Not as chill as I could be due to all the coffee I consume…..)

Wasn’t there an issue a while back regarding people getting mugged at knifepoint on their way home from work on that block? I remember being totally disappointed in the NYPD response. Perhaps the building is trying to preempt that negative publicity again now that the sun is setting earlier. The property manager will know.
Jorale-man
Good question. I don’t recall any knifepoint muggings recently around here. But that’s a viable theory. It hasn’t been the easiest addition to the neighborhood – a lot of littering in addition to the constant loitering by the patients there.

Theresa, its African American and NOT “black” get with the program Theresa.
It appears BHB readers are providing you with NO direction on the violent arrest of the two African American young women that you have a video of.
Effective Presenter
Maybe methadone and not an abortion clinic.
Not so long ago a guy had been sucker punched on Joralemon Street near the park entrance.
What had been a very quiet street for over 100 years changed forever by Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Effective Presenter
nomcebo has every right to express an issue on the BHB you know that.
Y’all are rude.
Soften your tone treat the inquiry by nomcebo with respect.

The Atlantic Antic AND the Brooklyn Book Festival will be held on October 1st. If you’re energetic enough, you can go to both (but I’m not). Sure wish someone had coordinated so that these weren’t happening simultaneously!
It is always our hope that BHB readers will read our abbreviated version, then go to the source. Mary is out there doing all the work, and she and the Eagle deserve your eyeballs and attention.

We at BHB are as much huge fans of Mary Frost’s reporting as everyone else. We post links to her stories and keep it short, for the specific purpose of directing readers to Mary’s thorough reporting for all the details. We amplify her reporting. We don’t “steal” her “intellectual property.”
Nomcebo Manzini
I’m sure I could have expressed myself better. Candidly, if only one could survive, I’d rather it be the Eagle (provided Mary Frost stays on staff), and I’m not sure whether the wind is at THEIR back any more.
They DO have all of Mary’s articles behind a paywall – obviously, that’s not always been the case. Yes, maybe, some subscribe to read the full text, but given that the summaries on BHB are GOOD ones, I kind of doubt it.

Yes, that end of the street has certainly changed. I think the building/homeowners on the blocks east of Henry are partly to blame too. Some appear poorly maintained and their sidewalks are strewn with litter and cracks. It subtly contributes to an anything-goes atmosphere…
