Tree Guards for Montague

Chelsea Mauldin, President of the Montague Street Business Improvement District, announced today that over fifty wrought iron guards would be placed around trees along Montague Street this spring. Installation of the guards will be done by the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation. City Council Member David Yassky was able to secure funding for the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of May.

great. Now how about a dive bar?

ts, the BID is trying to raise the bar, not lower it.
With all the traffic on Montague and the tight parking situation, I fear that these guards won’t last very long, as nice an idea as it may be.

I noticed cuts in the sidewalk on Montague, to make the tree pits even larger than they are now — similar to the ones created last year on Hicks Street between Pineapple and Clark Streets. So the tree pits will likely not be the small square ones now, but larger. Not sure if this is a good idea or not. Lots of room for dogs to get comfortable, and for trash to accumulate.
