Pretty crocuses! I love spring! Did you take that on the promenade?

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

Yes; between the Montague Street and Pierrepont Street entrances.

  • Joey

I wish the saxophone player on the corner of montague and Clinton would find another corner to play. I can hear him three blocks down the street. More importantly, he sucks.

  • DIBS

I just saw on the news that the cherry blossoms have already started blooming in DC. Some of the smaller budded species (which bloom earlier than the large flower species) in Philly were in bloom last week. Crocuses and snow drops all up last week there too.

I find it wildly disconcerting that it’s 70 degrees on March 1. Weather is supposed to vary but these fluctuations are beyond anything I’ve seen (and I grew up upstate and am used to some wild swings…). We broke the planet. Seriously.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I think the sax player sounds pretty good. I’d be interested to hear him play with a group though…Joey, do you have a musical background?

  • David on Middagh

Yes, I’m worried, too. We seem to have a couple of vicious cycles going. (Air conditioner electricity from fossil fuels that increase the greenhouse effect leading to more AC use; melting icecaps that then reflect less light leading to more warmth and melting, leading to undersea methane release, etc..)

  • Spata del Rippo

March and April have always been volitile weather months.

  • Banet

I love that guy. Whenever my kids and I come across him we stop and listen for a good 15 minutes. He’s one of the few authentic pieces of NYC left on Montague Street.

  • Teachdizzy

Hey doesn’t suck. I love hearing him play. When I hear him I feel like all is right with the world.

  • gpw99

Sure but look at the frequency of high wind warnings we’ve had in the past 6 months. The scientists have all stated this extreme weather is the outcome of climate change. We’re in it.

If you’re like POTUS and you like graphics with your information, here’s a good illustration: https://xkcd.com/1732/

My only hangup is the absence of citations…perhaps someone can track down the sources.

What was going on at Brooklyn Bridge Park last Thursday?? A million teens, gangs, police????

  • Banet

I’ve shared that graphic many times. For what it’s worth, the author of that image is a very reputable general science… cartoonist. He stands by his work and can back up all his data (his book is hilarious).

  • StudioBrooklyn

Yes, I’m quite familiar with his work, and I know that graphic has made its rounds pretty well by now. I just wish that page in particular at least contained links to his sources…

Spring was in the air. Shades of things to come.

my dad was in the bodega on Joralemon on Friday and overheard a cop chatting with another local, the cop said it was “kids who didn’t want to leave the park” or something like that…

  • Cadman Car

I saw 2 cop cars kind of escorting probably 500 or more teens up cadman. Mix of young (14-17 yr) males and females. I saw typical horsing around but dont think it was gangs or anything like that. They were also in the high street station fooling around but werent causing any trouble

Water main break on Montague Street between Henry and Clinton Thursday afternoon has sent water pouring into the subway, plus down Clinton toward Remsen. Article and video here:

I love listening to him. He brings a beautiful, melodious note of tranquility to that corner, and I always stop to listen.

Ohhhh the helicopter I photographed was hovering directly above. Everything makes sense now.

  • StudioBrooklyn

This is why I’m trying to ascertain whether Joey has a musical background; I figure he’d have to have a pretty discerning ear to reach that conclusion. Sometimes a fairly intimate knowledge of technique is needed to tease out the nuances of quality–and this form of iconoclasm is pretty much always welcome to me.

My young daughter loves him and he’s always willing to play a song for her. I appreciate that.
