End in Sight for Scaffolding at 65 Montague/20 Pierrepont?

Scaffolding has been in place for some years now at 65 Montague and its companion building, 20 Pierrepont, as we noted in this post last June. At the time, we were advised that the scaffolding was being kept in place pending a window replacement project. Last week, workers were unloading new windows from a truck in front of 65 Montague, and carrying them into the building (see photo above). Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Or, more accurately, is the tunnel about to disappear? Of course, to eliminate it completely, the Casino must also complete its exterior work and remove its scaffolding.

    I CAN NOT WAIT for this pathetic scaffold to come down…one of my children has never known this part of Pierrepont Street without hazards and darkness as we walk to the playground and promenade – how can a bldg be lawfully able to keep this scaffold up as long as this (I’m guessing close to four years now)….

    Promenade: sometimes it’s not the building’s fault but a byproduct of being in an historic district. I live in the St. George Tower. About 5 years ago we were struck by lightning and had to put up scaffolding immediately to protect pedestrians from the remote possibility of anything falling from the building’s facade. By the time we got approvals for the repairs from all of the required parties — especially the Empire State Development Commission — over a year had passed before the renovations could even begin.
