Ha! All the more perfect for 11201, as the depicted apt features charming period details (like a landline).

See my photo of the shoveled-out Cranberry Street after the Blizzard of 1983 (a third of a century ago, gak!) on the Subway Service Alerts thread.

I was in Key Food today and the food-hoarders were coming through. I bought a bunch of soup that I really didn’t need.

  • Andrew Porter

Anyone else noticed that Trader Joe’s has stopped selling this soup? I am heartbroken,,,

I love TJ’s, but a crockpot is the way to go for a great soup, sir. Very easy. Very delicious. Pick up some cheap lentils from Sahadi’s and go to town!!! Be well.

A few years ago I was a guest on the Food Network on Emeril Lagasse’s show on galettes.
This post brings up my interest in teaching a basic cooking class. My kitchen is fit for a submarine, so I’m looking for someone else’s.
My approach is simple ingredients ending up with comfort food – pasta dishes, soups, basic dressings, pizza, crepes and bread from scratch.

But I’d have to buy a crockpot, which I don’t own.

Over the recent years, have been giving away the cooking stuff my mother either gave me 40 years ago, or I inherited upon her death, none of which I used. The Le Crueset stuff gone, the 70-year old possibly dangerous pressure cooker, the…

I have a pyrex double boiler I’d like to give away, too. Interested?

Thank you, but I’m all set with the cook ware. Although I hope my next kitchen in BH has a little more room for me to practice so I can realize my dream of competing in “Chopped”.

Went to TJ’s at 10:45 am this morning. A line stretching well around the corner just to get in. No way was I waiting just to get in, so I made a second trip to Sahadi’s, one to L & H and one visit to Key…

I think this is worth mentioning because it’s the third incident that I’ve seen in 2 weeks. Today I passed by St Paul’s church in Cobble Hill and right at the corner there was a car with a broken window and the compartments opened up. It had obviously been robbed. I saw this 2 weeks ago in the heights on Henry St between Joralemon and State street.

Hopefully this doesn’t become the norm in our neighborhood but if you have a car make sure to not leave anything valuable in sight.

    After me own heart, matey.

Bring it to the meetup at Marie Antoinette’s at Chez Moi and I’ll take it for a spin.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is Suing Creator of Bouncy Squibb Bridge for $6 Million:

    http://www.brownstoner.com/blog/2016/01/brooklyn-bridge-park-suing-creator-bouncy-squibb-bridge-6-million/

  • Joe

would be ironic if judge rules they’re too late to file

  • Slyone

Apparently BBP is suing the company that designed the Squibb Bridge: https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20160122/brooklyn-heights/brooklyn-bridge-park-corp-suing-designers-of-bouncy-squibb-bridge. Has this already been discussed?

  • Slyone

Jinx, I see it was posted above and I missed it somehow.

  • StudioBrooklyn

If the bridge was taxpayer funded (so says Brownstoner) why should the BBPC be awarded the lawsuit money? Shouldn’t it go back to the taxpayers?

This smacks of BS. Is the BBPC trying to throw someone else under the bus to conceal their own decision to close the bridge under probable pressure from Pierhouse shareholders who don’t want passersby in close proximity of their double glazed windows?

(I hope the shareholders don’t suddenly decide to start reading the blog or I won’t get my shilling check this week!)

  • Jorale-man

    Wow:
“Arup Group, a well-known engineering firm, needs another six months to create new plans for the bridge — possibly even plans for an entirely new bridge. Then those plans need to be approved by the board of Brooklyn Bridge Park. Only then can repair work be done.”

Hi Andrew! I wrote to Trader Joe’s in December wondering what became of their lentil soup. This was their reply: “Unfortunately, our supplier for this soup has decided to no longer offer
private label options and we were forced to discontinue this product.
We are currently in the process of finding a new source, but do not have
a date of its return at this time. We do encourage checking back with
your local store’s Captain for updates.”

  • StudioBrooklyn

Yeah the BBP board are so trustworthy to approve plans.

Oops. I mean, their wisdom and altruism toward our community clearly knows no bounds!

  • BrooklynCoffeeLover

We ending up buying tons of chocolate and waited in a very long line.

Looking at traffic everyday, how could one not think of the impact of congestion, noise and pollution, and slowly moving people. Many don’t know that funding for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority receives a 50-cent surcharge from each yellow taxi trip. Does this go for Uber and Fresh Direct deliveries? What of all of those Amazon prime orders coming via UPS, FedEx and others?

Just read this article in the NYT about Arthur Miller’s life, and his residency in Brooklyn Heights.
    http://nyti.ms/1PaLMqx

    Here’s a sample:
In 1941, the couple moved to 18 Schermerhorn Street, one of the first single-family homes in the Heights to be converted into apartments. The newly remodeled flat ran through the whole floor and was spacious. From his “quiet, leafy village,” Miller watched the ships come and go in the harbor and observed the neighborhood diversity: Muslims ate in the garden behind his apartment, Mohawk Indians lived a few blocks away, working to build Manhattan’s skyscrapers and bridges.
