A few Brooklyn Bridge Park observations:
    1. It appears they’re starting work on the marina adjacent to Pier 5.
    2. But no signs of when the new section of Pier 6 is going to open. It was originally slated to open last month, according to some news reports I’d seen.
    3. They’ve been steadily removing all of the grass and brush from the berm recently. Wasn’t there a big struggle to grow that in the first place? I wonder what the deal is.
    4. The bouncy bridge saga continues.

What happened to the mail box on the corner of Hicks street?

  • HereToStay

It looks like – maybe – Heights Limo has left it’s little storefront on Henry. YEAH! Parking spots here we come!

The 84th precinct community council meeting was held last night. Captain Centra opened the meeting and presented a strong report on the the very serious dangers of synthetic marijuana and the amounts seized from local smoke shops. The new executive director of the BHA attended with Judy Stanton. Then the fireworks started. One community advocate arose with a three part question on the the two major failures recently of the 911 system, the nightly low overflights of surveillance aircraft and the plague of (now electric) delivery bikes dangerously on sidewalks. On the 911 failure issue, the questioner recalled the pattern of nonperformance in the seventies and early 80’s and then tied it to the amount of well, “self defense” many Heights residents took to during those years. Then the questions of the BBP and problems on Joralemon Street surged to the surface with ranged from several people who were victims of ugly harrasement to the glut of illegal parking. Then the issue of the homeless and street behavior was raised by numerous people present. Finally, a representative of the transit police rose to answer questions; one representative of a local church related the experience of being on a local train, having a threatening passenger on board, and the motorman signal for police through three stations, including one which is a TA Precinct (!) without result! One attendee then asked the TA cop “well,, if YOU were a passenger on that train, wouldn’t you think of go getting some kind of ” protection”? All the questions received blithe correct answers which appears to satisfy few really…

Re: Pier 6. I asked a parks employee about this a few weeks ago and she said the work was done but the park was waiting for final permits/sign-offs. Supposed to open by mid October if not earlier.

    Which cross street?

Hey OTW friends! The latest BK HeightsCast episode up. Listen hurr —> http://bkheightscast.com/5-have-you-heard-of-staged-authenticity/

  • StudioBrooklyn

Anyone know this person? Saw him walking down Pierrepont yesterday shouting abuse at people and having a loud unfriendly and very unstructured conversation with himself. Just a little worried about the poor guy…

  • NeighboorHood

Hey…anyone know what that white boat is in the OTW photo? We saw it again yesterday and were just wondering…

  • RJG

There is now a bike lane on Schermerhorn between Smith and Clinton.

  • gc

Looks like the Governor’s Island Ferry.

  • Banet

Ha. He yelled at my wife to “put her shoe on!” Answer sat on a Hicks stoop.

  • StudioBrooklyn

By the way I’m not sure why my photos often display in strange orientations. I think Disqus might have an issue with their code…or, as we’ve conjectured in the past, my phone has been drinking again.

  • WillowL

I have seen him around for years. He suffers from some sort of mental illness. He is generally Harmless, speaks to himself a lot. He may be off his medication. I have never seen him be violent toward anyone though.

  • WillowL

    Hicks and Pierepont

  • StudioBrooklyn

That was my guess. I’m glad to know he isn’t violent. I hope he gets the help he needs.

  • Concerned

He looks dangerous!!! You are very brave to have taken his picture, especially while standing on your head…

  • nataliof feliciano

Is this the one on Hicks and Pierrepont Sts.? I complained to the postmaster about this, and you and everyone else should also.

  • JaneonOrange

Yes–I asked a driver and he said that office was now closed…

  • Hudson Hornet

This is what’s wrong with the city: if something like that happens, it’s anyone’s responsibility to put a swift end to it. Anyone should call the cops and provide the 911 systems for updates until they have this guy in bracelets or in a psychiatric emergency room. People want to complain, but how many will stop and see to it this guy’s act terminated, and he gets real help. We really owe that to our community and the city to stop and do something.

  • Hudson Hornet

Sophomoric humor aside, don’t like this behavior in the Heights? Fine, make the great effort to put aside your personal wants long enough to make sure that the behavior is stopped.
Or do you just want to complain?

  • Guest

I’ve seen him quite a bit. He is usually over in Cobble Hill. I’ve seen him at Trader Joe’s, The Cobble Hill park, etc.. He is often yelling or talking about god. For the most part he seems harmless.

  • LDS

I have NEVER seen anyone working on the bouncy bridge! Is it ever going to re-open?? And who’s in charge of this anyway? very frustrating…..

  • NeighboorHood

    Thanks!

  • Concerned

There are plenty of mentally ill “functional” people in this city. I call the police if I see someone endangering themselves or others. Otherwise, I let them be. This guy seems harmless. What are the police going to do?

  • HereToStay

I call foil on this one… I would bet a heft some that some folks on CH or Cranberry or Willow Re causing some behind the scenes trouble there to try and close it forever… Can’t prove it, but I bet it is true…

  • LDS

Damn. I’m an avid walker, and a “senior citizen” who really appreciated the short cut which allowed me to avoid the watchtower hill. What I don’t get is that as soon as it was shut down, there was NO activity to repair it, as far as I could see.

  • Jorale-man

I see him in Brooklyn Bridge Park many mornings (though not upside-down). I suspect he has schizophrenia as he’s incessantly talking to himself. I feel bad for him because he’s clearly not getting the proper treatment he needs.

  • CCO

Not that anyone is going to pay attention to it…I bike down Schermerhorn daily and have never not seen dozens of cars and trucks parked in it. It might as well not exist

  • StudioBrooklyn

America, buddy. Someone needs medical treatment? Go back to Russia.
