On Friday evening, August 1, starting at 7:00, Bargemusic will present an eclectic mixture of classical (Schubert), modern (Charles Ives), and contemporary (Scott Wheeler and Martin Boykan) music performed on piano by Donald Berman (photo, by Gil Gilbert). On Saturday evening at 7:00 and on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 the Manhattan Symphonie Chamber Orchestra, featuring Mark Peskanov on violin, will perform works by Bach, Mendelssohn, and Vivaldi. The Brooklyn Heights Cinema will be showing A Most Wanted Man and Chef. On Saturday evening at 11:30 there will be another “almost midnight” showing of Willow Creek. More information and showtimes are here.
On Saturday starting at 4:00 p.m. there will be a Hindu Aarti lamp ceremony at the Pebble Beach in the Main Street (DUMBO) section of Brooklyn Bridge Park. According to the Park’s website, “This will be an unforgettable evening in the best way possible.” More information here. Also at Brooklyn Bridge Park this Sunday, the Pier Kids series presents “soulful children’s R&B” by Shine & the Moonbeams on the Pier 6 lawns from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. Also on Sunday Smorgasburg will be on the Pier 5 uplands (near the Joralemon Street entrance) from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, starting at noon, there will be a free Docent Tour of Pier 1. Baylander will be open for tours Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
