The Heights Players will open their three weekend production of Yentl, by Leah Napolin and Isaac Bashevis Singer, a play about “the divine androgeny of the soul,” this weekend, with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 and Sunday afternoon at 2:00. The Brooklyn Heights Cinema will begin showing The Grand Budapest Hotel, a trip in space and time to a splendid resort hotel in Middle Europe between the two great wars, starring, among others, F. Murray Abraham and Ralph Fiennes, with a cameo appearance by Bill Murray. The Cinema will also be showing Le Week-End. On Saturday afternoon at 1:00 the Brooklyn Historical Society, in conjunction with Green-Wood Cemetery, is offering a “Trolley Tour of Baseball’s Greats” interred at Green-Wood, with commentary by Society of Baseball Research (“SABR”) member Tom Gilbert. BHS is also hosting a lecture, presented by The Brooklyn Jewish Historical Initiative, by Dr. Deborah Dash Moore, Professor of Jewish History at the University of Michigan, on “The Immigrant Experience in Brooklyn.” The lecture is on Sunday afternnon starting at 4:00; more information here.
On Friday evening at 7:00 Bargemusic will present a “Bargemix” concert, “Christina Courtin Sings with Strings.” there will be two “Masterworks” concerts. One, starting at 7:00 Saturday evening, will feature works by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Schumann played on piano by Assaff Weisman. On Sunday afternoon at 4:00 Edward Arron on cello and Jeewon Park on piano will perform works by Bach, Schubert, and Chopin. There’s more information and buy tickets here. Brooklyn Bridge Park will have its first “Spring Spruce-Up & Cut-Back” event at Pier 6 on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; the park staff will supply tools and gloves. More information here.
