Starting this Friday, August 16, the Brooklyn Heights Cinema will be showing In A World, starring Lake Bell, who also directs (and whom you may have noticed, as I certainly did, on the cover of this week’s New York magazine–the design gives a new meaning to “dotting the ‘i'”), as a vocal coach who becomes a voice-over artist and, in a reversal of the Electra complex, finds herself in competition with her father. The Cinema is also showing The Way, Way Back. Showtimes are here.
Bargemusic has scheduled three “masterworks” concerts this weekend. On Friday evening at 8:00 there will be works by Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, and Fauré performed on flute and piano. On Saturday evening, also at 8:00, hear works by Schumann and Brahms on cello and piano. On Sunday afternoon at 2:00 the Gramercy Trio will perform works by Mozart, Gunther Schuller, and Ravel. On Saturday afternoon at 3:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert, program and musicians TBA. The doors open at 2:30; it’s first come, first seated. More info and buy tickets here.
Don’t forget: you have your second chance to join in the apple tree trimming at Poplar Street Garden on Saturday afternoon, starting at 1:00.
