Wondering if anyone has info on what’s happening on Henry at the corner of Orange where the old Diva Salon was. Heard an Italian restaurant was being opened by the new owner of the building… Not sure if that is true.

  • Cranberry Beret

Do you think the people who live at 45 Hicks Street are vampires? They have black plywood up over their parlor floor windows. I think the hurricane danger has passed…

  • Mr. Crusty

I want to take this opportunity, as fitting the holiday, to give thanks to the American people who weren’t deceived by the lies and deception of the Romney team and re-elected President Obama.

This was a very important election and we should all be thank-ful. I am also slightly optimistic that the Republican Party will reform. We need two vibrant reasonable parties for democracy to work. Right now the current Rush Limbaughed GOP does not fit that definition.

  • Owen Hughes

I second Mr. Crusty’s thanks for the President’s wishes, but why stop at two reasonable parties? A nationally viable Green party would be a great start.

  • bagel boy

Crusty: stop the ridiculous and gooey platitudes about Obama. The election is over. Move on you sycophant. You have 4 more years to live out your bromance with him.

  • HenryLoL

The Obama win was the worst thing that could have happened == We are in for a miserable 4 years. He has no understanding that about 1/2 the country disagrees with everything he stands for. That is no way to run a country.

  • David on Middagh

I have always admired my neighbors of the opposite political stripe who did not gloat when their party took office. I apologize to them on behalf of that character up there who seems intent on starting another political flame war, as he did the other week.

  • Cascascas

There’s another movie shoot in the heights today – on and around Hunts Lane – starring Matt Bomer, Will Smith and Colin Farrell. Seems we are honored with two pre-Thanksgiving shoots in the neighborhood at the same time this week.

  • Wiley E.

No parking on Joralemon Street or Atlantic Avenue today. Movies, movies.. Movie your cars. Suckers.

  • youralemon

has anyone heard if any BK heights restaurants are doing anything special for thanksgiving dinner?

  • Mr. Crusty

David, that is rather arrogant of you to apologize on my behalf.

You act as if I am not allowed to have, or articulate, my own personal opinions but for some reason I never observed you to show any reticence to proclaim your own, sometime quite controversial, viewpoints.

I was not gloating. I was being thankful for the results. I think a lot of Americans are. My post included a criticism of the Romney team for what I considered to be lies and deception in the campaign. To me it is important to call a lie a lie and for there to be consequences for blatant mendacity. Agree or disagree but I will not be quiet in such circumstances lest my silence be perceived as acquiescence. I am sorry if that offends supporters of Romney but I wasn’t attacking them in any way.

Of course there have been any number of attacks and insults of Obama here on the BHB were you as equally distressed and apologetic about those David?

  • Mr. Crusty

@Owen. Unfortunately the way our system is set up their is no chance whatsoever that a third party would be viable and would only result in taking away votes from the candidate more closely aligned with the third party therefor electing those candidates more opposed to their policies. (i.e. Nader – Gore – Bush). To me that is the very definition of counter-productive.

It would be better if that energy and effort were directed at one of the two major parties to make them more accurately reflect your opinions.

  • Mr. Crusty

    Their = there. I hate auto-correct.

  • Boerum Bill

    Palin 2016, amirite?!

  • MonroeOrange

I also can’t believe the day before thanksgiving there are more movie parking restrictions. Enough is enough, and this morning I didn’t even see any trucks filming. Monroe, candman plaza, etc all restricted. People need the spots for out of town guests this week. It’s ridiculous, in my last 30 years of parking in the heights, this year has easily been the worst. Happy thanksgiving all!

  • WillowNabe

    MonroeOrange,
There were trucks on Pierrepont St. this morning, close to St. Ann’s school. I saw one of the actors at the food cart.
I think they were filming on Monroe.

  • Banville

Re Palin 2016. So wrong, So unaware. She’s much too busy laughing all the way to the bank. What?? Work??

  • Bugged

Was doing some cleaning today and found a few carpet beetles. Anyone have any good solutions for getting rid of these pests?

  • MOT

We usually deliver some Thanksgiving pumpkin pies to Grace Church senior dinner but I haven’t seen any info about them needing contributions this year. Is it still being held – any info appreciated.

  • ME

How about giving thanks to everyone who voted, regardless of affiliation, for taking part in the democratic process. As your BH neighbor I am offended by your blind, inconsiderate comments. I would think a site like this was developed to bring neighbors together, not divide. I am thankful for those of you, who like me, come to this site to be part of a community.

  • Gerry

We are a fortuante group blessed with health, happiness, and a secure life.

And we wish these good things to all others at this Thanksgiving time of year.

    May God Bless America.

No matter who is President we will be OK both candidates have strengths and both candidates have weaknesses what will be will be.

We wish President Obama well that he does better in his second term.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  • WillowNabe

    ME,
I so totally agree with you. Unfortunately, I was not able to vote because I developed another DVT and could not walk.
There seems to be a lot of division here on the BHB. I find myself not posting as much as I used to. I hate being bullied.
I am too old for it and maybe a bit too sensitive.
Your post was very thoughtful and I for one appreciated it.

  • Lizi

@MOT – Heights & Hill Thanksgiving Dinner will be at Grace Church at noon tomorrow (Thursday) as usual — pies would be extremely welcome — thank you!

  • Mr. Crusty

@me “As your BH neighbor I am offended by your blind, inconsiderate comments”

I assume you are talking to me, me. Can you show me what in my post could be categorized as, “blind, inconsiderate comments?

I expressed a political view, not unheard here, and did not insult, attack, demean, or even reference anyone on this blog. Did I? Who exactly was I being inconsiderate to? A generic Romney supporter? Please. Spare me the moral outrage.

    In return, this was said:

@bagelboy “Crusty: stop the ridiculous and gooey platitudes about Obama. The election is over. Move on you sycophant. You have 4 more years to live out your bromance with him.

@david “I apologize to them on behalf of that character up there . . .”

And of course we have your comment.

So who is it again that is “dividing” the community?

  • Teresa

Drove down Henry St today only to be diverted onto Remsen because the block between Remsen and Joralemon was completely closed–no traffic, no pedestrians–because of filming. Not even residents were permitted to get back to their homes.

As someone else posted, it’s outrageous that on one of the busiest traffic days of the year, during prime delivery time (this was about 10:15), a private, profit-making movie sheet had the right to shut down a public street, with local police on guard to prevent people from going in.

Going to follow up with 84th and would love to hear from people who had negative experiences with this today. teresa @ brooklynbackstretch . com.

    And happy Thanksgiving to all….

  • ME

Crusty…you just don’t get it. For everyone else, I apologize for continuing this.

  • Wiley E.

How to deal with krusty? Ignore him. I have skipped reading all of krusties krazy koments for months.

Happy Holidays. We have a lot to be thankful for. (if you aren’t krusty.)

  • Mr. Crusty

No, you just make horribly insulting comments about gays for no dicernable reason right wiliey?

  • bagel boy

Crusty. Anyone ever tell you in grade school that only a jerk spikes the ball in the end zone. Where I come from the coach would bench you two games for that. You are an equal opportunity idiot and progressive-regressive.

If there can be a Gaza cease fire, can we hope for a flame war cease fire?
