My mother always said that civilized people don’t discuss money, religion or politics. To this day I have no idea who she votes for, if she’s religious, or if she has any money.

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving!

Brooklyn Heights is one of the treasures of this city, as well as this country. It saddens me that someone cannot express thanks or appreciation without incurring a personal attack.
We live in a country where freedom of speech is an honored tradition, and we need to honor each other’s opinions in order to survive.
There is so much injustice in this world. How about attacking poverty instead of each other?

I’m guessing the movie shoots were delayed by the hurricane and if they waited any longer they risk the character of the tree foliage changing from the shots they took before the hurricane.

Is it ideal to have all these shoots? No. Does it employ a huge number of New Yorkers? Yes.

@ Wiley E. – I do the same thing ignore Crusty and do not read his posts skip right over them.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Mr. Crusty

If my giving thanks for an Obama win is “spiking the ball in an end zone” then you are living on another planet. The overreaction to my simple, non-insulting comment regarding the election I think has more to do with lack of grace on the part of those that supported Romney. Like the candidate himself your only recourse is to insult and attack those that supported our President.

To recap, my “spiking the ball” comment, “I want to take this opportunity, as fitting the holiday, to give thanks to the American people who weren’t deceived by the lies and deception of the Romney team and re-elected President”

To which bagelboy replied: “Crusty: stop the ridiculous and gooey platitudes about Obama. The election is over. Move on you sycophant. You have 4 more years to live out your bromance with him.”

I’ll leave it to others as to who is the jerk. What incredible sore losers.

New website design is awesome. Looks great on my phone. I’d like to thank Obama and Colin Farrell for their hard work making it happen.

  • Mr. Crusty

I agree Monty, the new design works great on the iPhone. It really was unusable before on smartphones. It also seems to load much faster. Great job.

  • God Almighty

Okay Crusty, you want judgement. You are both jerks, BB for his inane comments and you for trolling.

  • Moni

There is nothing partisan or inappropriate in expressing our gratitude that an intelligent, capable, accomplished, energetic, decent man has been reelected to the Presidency. Perhaps the mention of Romney’s dishonest and distasteful campaign need not have been added — although we should all certainly be thankful, too, that we’re not facing 4 years of Mitt & Company’s leveraged buyout of the government. His sore-loser comments since the election prove the wisdom of all those who voted Obama back in.

Did anyone happen to find a small woman’s wallet on Montague Street? Looks like we dropped it on Wednesday afternoon.

Would love to have it and partoicularly the driver’s license inside returned (no questions asked). Thanks.

  • PJL

    *particularly…. Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m with Mr. Crusty who seems to be the only reasonable voice on this forum. In other ways, the blog has degenerated into a cesspool, not worthy any longer to engage in rational debate.

  • Mr. Crusty

Thanks yoohoo, Moni and margs, I’m glad there are still some adults around don’t have to resort to juvenile insults. But if being thankful for Obama’s re-election warrants calling me a jerk, a sycophant and a troll by Mensa candidates like BagelBoy and the rest, so be it. It is well worth it.

  • bagel boy

Crusty: you don’t live up to your name. You are very thin skinned for someone that is so opinionated. I actually have no issue with the President at all. I have a big issue with blowhards that don’t get it that 48 percent of the people in this country and 35 percent in NY voted to oust Obama. There was no landslide. People like you make it impossible to heal a divided country. And yes we are a terribly divided nation in case you had not noticed. Are you too stupid to get that ?

  • Moni

Bagel Boy: Obama won. Get over it and stop trying to downplay the victory. Remember that included in the opposition is a substantial percentage who simply couldn’t bring themselves to vote for someone who is’nt lily white. Why should we respect them or give their opposition serious weight?

  • Mr. Crusty

@bagelBoy yes unfortunately it is a divided country. It is something I have been concerned about and dismayed by for a long time. We can have a long debate on who is more responsible for dividing this country but from my perspective a lot of the fault has to be put at the feet of the Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannity’s, Ann Coulter’s, Donald Trumps’s, And Glen Beck’s of the world for the incivility that we see in our politics.

In my original post which attracted your juvenile insults I expressed the hopes that the election willmcause the Republican Party to shed some of the “crazies” that will doom it from being a legitimate party moving forward and we can actually debate the merits of issues rather than Obama’s school grades in college or other nonsense.

Oh, and what can be more divisive that the repellent insulting comments by Mitt Romney dividing this country in his simplistic cartoon view of “makers” and “takers”. Yes I am glad he lost. Very glad, and I make no apologies.

Anyone seen falcon’s around the ‘hood? We have seen two. One devoured a pigeon on the sidewalk. Crazy. Anyone know why there are around? i’ve lived here 15 years and have never seen them here before.

  • Mr. Crusty

I couldn’t post this in the Where is BeeBop thread so I thought I’d give it a shot here.

@cathy I just went to your Facebook page. I was astounded. Everyone should take a look. Here is the link.

Ok, let me ask a question, are you receiving “donations” to help you with the “reward”? If so, how much money have you collected to date since you started the page in July of 2011? I must admit that the cynical cop in me smells a scam. Shame on BHB for participating in this.

I see them all the time in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and I presume they’re here too. I’ve also seen bats on Joralemon Street in the summer.
