    Where do you guys donate your clothes in the neighborhood? I don’t want to travel far, since I have a big bag to bring in and no car.

    I know the Vietnam vets used to arrange pick-ups, but they’ve stopped serving the Heights…

    @Flashlight Worthy: Oh, do they take donations there? I thought I had checked before (around 18 mos. ago), and they were sending people to another location.

    I take my clothing donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in the Brooklyn Archidiosese Building on Joralemon Street.

    The thrift shop at the St. Charles Jubilee Senior Center at 55 Pierrepont Street will reopen the end of this month after being renovated. Donations of gently used clothing and jewelry are currently being accepted daily from 10 am til 4 PM.

    Re: High Street Station closure for ‘fast track’ work: We live near the station and the ‘workers’ have been outside, near our house, talking for hours each night. Can’t be all that much work going on in the High Street station.

    Reply to mompom: I agree. They stand outside the station all night, joking and laughing. No work going on as far as I can see. Not only can I not sleep because of the noise, but it makes me mad that riders and taxpayers are being “taken for a ride.”

    Very random, but are the any astronomy experts on the blog? The last few nights we’ve been seeing what we think is a planet. If you are looking from the the Promenade towards Jersey, it is just about directly over the Statue of Liberty, angled to her right (obviously very high in the sky). Anyone know?

    We’re looking to move to a bigger place and saw a couple of open houses at 111 Hicks on Sunday. Really liked one of them. Can I get feedback/opinions from residents about the building, especially residents with kids (we have one). I’m a little concerned about the maintenance being high, but otherwise really liked it. TIA.

    If you have a lot of clothing or can’t move it yourself, the Salvation Army will come to your home to pick it up. They also take furniture.

    The Salvation Army is VERY picky about what furniture it takes. We always go to Housing Works. They will give you a blank form to take home and fill out in advance, so when you drop off it is pretty painless and (no cheating, they do check) then they sign the form which you can save for your taxes.

    Just starting working from my home office after years in midtown. One thing I miss are my “go-to” lunch spots, which I am having a hard time finding in Heights. Would love to hear your can’t-miss “special” meals in the neighborhood. Example: LOVE the panelle sandwiches at Ferdinando’s on Union Street, but that is quite a hike.

    If possible, would love your mix of healthy options, non-healthy options, etc … thanks!

    Can anyone recommend a jeweler in the nabe or surrounding areas for small work? Looking to get a ring re-sized.

    PBL if you like Indian Curry Heights has a nice lunch special, or else what about Pho or a sandwich at Hanco’s, tacos at Chipotle, or felafel from Heights Felafel? HF gets super crowded with people from the Courts fyi. All the Chinese places and probably even Lantern on Montague have lunch specials. Le Pain also opening up soon.

    PBL – I live and work here in the Heights too. My favorite healthy lunch options are Siggy’s on Henry Street, Vegetarian Ginger on Montague, and Perlandra on Remsen. Also Iron Chef and Tenda are my favorite picks for sushi/asian fusion. I’m vegan, so finding healthy eats around here is a challenge – so I’m curious to hear what other healthy places other Brooklyn Heights residents enjoy!

    Just a heads up: saw what appeared to be a Shepherd mix (no tags) walking north on Hicks Street near the corner with Montague this morning about 9am. He was drinking from a street puddle and looked a little tired and a little gaunt. Just in case someone was looking . . .

    There were two helicopters hovering over Willow St. at 10 PM last night. Stationary. Why was that?

    Anna B — Satnick has been in the area almost forever, although they have moved around a lot; now, they are at 187 State, just off Court. The owner (Hartley) is an interesting character, especially if you care about old-time Brooklyn politics or the evolution of Court Street. He can also be a little … cantankerous; but he, and now his son, do excellent work. I don’t know if the prices are comparable to others’, but they seem fair.

    I’ve been working at home for over a dozen years, and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone out for a bite. IMHO, one of the best advantages of a home office is that I eat at home. It’s convenient, I get what I want, I save thousands of dollars a year on food, and I eat healthy because I know exactly what I’m eating and how it’s prepared.

    I have a dog, so I walk him up and down the Promenade with the time I save not going out to lunch, and it’s good exercise and a nice break midday.

    I’m bringing my young cousin out for lunch in Brooklyn Heights tomorrow. I’d like somewhere nice but it will need to accommodate her wheelchair. Does anyone have recommendations? Thanks.

    MOT – Brooklyn Heights Cafe (corner of Montague and Hicks) has a lovely outdoor seating area and the inside is wheelchair accessible also. Menu is suitable for everyone – don’t know how young your cousin is, but there are plenty of kids, adults, and in between ages dining here for lunch. I’ve always been happy with the food and service!

    I can’t recommend Iron Chef- their fish isn’t always particularly fresh- suspect even, I’d say.

    You want sushi in the North Heights? Sushi Gallery is the only way to go…
