That Crunching Sound? Crane on Barge Hits Scaffolding Under Brooklyn Bridge

The Daily News reports that Tuesday evening, a crane carried on a barge ripped into the scaffolding, in place for repair work, under the Brooklyn Bridge. The Daily News story says there are no reported injuries, and no apparent structural damage to the bridge, though it is being inspected. At 9:15, Notify NYC reported that “[d]ue to an earlier incident the FDR exit ramp to the Brooklyn Bridge has been closed.” It advised to expect heavy traffic delays and to take alternate routes. There’s no indication of any delays to traffic bound from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

Not the first time this has happened. Battleships, aircraft carriers and the like headed for the Brooklyn Navy Yard also had close encounters with the bridge.
