Last month the kids at P.S. 8 presented their first original theater production entitled Soldea Island. The Brooklyn Eagle has a reports on the play and the students who put it together:
Brooklyn Eagle: Urples…: “Soldea Island” was written by Robert Weinstein and based on an illustrated story by drama teacher Noelle Gentile. Ms. Gentile and fourth grade teacher Angie Nelson directed. Students revised scenes and designed the colorful costumes. Third grade parent Jeff Newell wrote the music. Dozens of parents, teachers and students turned the auditorium into a theater space, sewed costumes, designed sets, applied makeup.
Students started working on the production in March. “It’s been 100 percent student-driven,” Ms. Gentile told Learning Curves. “There are 75 kids involved, with 35 behind the scenes and 40 on stage. Many in the cast had never been in a play before. They kept coming to rehearsals; they were really determined. I was very impressed with their focus. (Full story)
