The members of First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn are hosting two free community events this summer that celebrate global diversity in the arts.
Event #1 June 8– Global Arts Festival
On June 8, First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn will host the second annual Global Arts Festival, an afternoon of music and dance – everything from African drumming to rhythm and blues to the Moroccan oud – presented along with food, arts, and special children’s entertainment in a friendly neighborhood setting.Event #2 June 22 – Performance by Siyaya
On June 22, First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn will host a public performance by Siyaya (http://www.jlzwane.sun.ac.za/), an acclaimed South African youth ensemble that is touring nationally and uses a mixture of traditional South African music, pop, jazz and opera to educate audiences about HIV/AIDS prevention. Siyaya’s lively performances promote a sense of global community, as its youthful members, who come from an impoverished township outside of Cape Town, seek to reach out to audiences as cultural ambassadors. (The event is free, but we will collect donations for the group.)
