Watchtower Trick or Tracts in the North Heights

Sure the folks over at the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society aka Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t “celebrate” Halloween but they took to the streets of the North Heights this morning to “Trick or Tract”.

We’ve discussed the unneighborliness of Watchtower knocking in the Heights before and this morning’s doorbell ringing was no exception.  While it was amusing to hear a woman on the intercom who sounded like Cloris Leachman in Young Frankenstein it was still an unnecessary violation of my personal space.   So, Watchtower folks we’re sorry you’re bummed the world is ending soon but next time just Tweet us your “good news”.

    The whole door to door thing is risky now-days and less effective in the Internet age,I google everything first.

    Jehovah’s Witnesses are schooled in ‘finding common ground’,if you like pink elephants they will become experts on pink elephants.

    That’s the beauty of religion and superstition, it has no limits.Religion is the most profitable legal business because religions can misquote, misrepresent, and use unethical practices without fear of punishment. It’s the absolute best way to scam people I have yet seen

    Jehovah’s Witnesses would be obscure and no one would say anything negative about them except they instigate problems.

    1) break up families under the guise of Jesus said so.

    2) let kids die from no blood transfusion then say it’s from God and then have all kinds of you can use blood parts loopholes.

    3) go door to door and lie about why they are really there say it’s to encourage Bible reading when they want to get literature in your hands ask for donation and then come back bothersome because you took literature just to be nice to them.

    Get rid of these 3 things and you will do fine maybe even God will like you better

    The Watchtower is getting outta dodge,relocating upstate cashing in on their Brooklyn real estate.

    Armegeddon was expected years ago,now they have to keep followers busy with make work construction projects.

    YES! This is the first time I have had my bell rung by them in over 3 years of living here and let me tell you it pissed me off worse than a cold shower to get out of my toasty bed and NPR cocoon to listen to that speech through my intercom. I agree with XYZ; I thought they had some sort of deal where when they bought up all the land here in the 60s they made some agreement not to proselytize

    Yes, there has always been an tacit understanding that they wouldn’t proselytize in the neighborhood, and in return we wouldn’t try to deprogram any of their new cult members or otherwise ridicule them when we see them shuffling to and from kingdom hall, making preparations for the end of the world. We have only been buzzed 3 times in the last 5 years, so I guess it could be worse.

    In order to be classified as cult, certain criteria must be met. One of them is force. The Jehovah’s Witnesses use force in many different ways to in order to keep their people “believing”. If your Christian organization uses force, then you aren’t in a Christian church.

    Other tactics they use…forced obedience, fear, and threats of all sorts if members should try to leave.

    Believe it or not, they actually keep a file on every member which includes all your reported activities by other members aka, snitches. If you start “slacking” or showing shines of causing “trouble”, they call in the elders and hound that person till he complies. They force family members to cut that person off till he complies. They have a name for it..it’s called “shunning”.

    Watchtower society,it’s a perfect example of a true cult.

    Ringing on your doorbell is NOT invading or encroaching on your “personal space”. If they opened your door, and walked in, or went on private property (with the exception of a walkup, or driveway as protected by free speech and the supreme court unless you post a “no trespassing sign”) that WOULD be.

    If you do not like it, open the door – tell them you aren’t interested, put you on their “do not call” list (just as you have to do legally with phone call solicitors).

    If elders come back to follow up a year later to ask if you STILL arent interested, let them know they are to NEVER come back, and if they do, threaten them with legal action. Better yet, tell the original people that come there to give you a number to their “presiding overseer” and make SURE they know they will be in trouble if they EVER return.

    Whatever you do – do NOT pretend this is infringing on your rights, by them coming up to your door and spreading a message. This is a right protected so that if we ever have any message to spread, about tyrannical government, revolution, social change, etc – we can spread it, the poor and the rich.

    Where in the world did Darlene get that nonsense?! I’ve been a Witness or been around em for over fifty years and I have never experienced any of that stuff! I do know that almost all of those folks would have liked to have remained in their “toasty bed(s) and NPR cocoon(s)” but they obviously felt that what they had to say to you was really important. I can’t imagine being “buzzed” three times in five years is all that annoying – heck down here we get “buzzed” more than that by Mormons!

    The origin of all Watchtower teachings that makes them unique over all other religions is their creed of Jesus second coming ‘invisibly’ in the year 1914.

    Why?

    The Jehovah’s Witnesses actually have roots with the Seventh Day Adventist,they both have common origin in the William Miller apocalyptic movement of the 18th century.

    Of,course here in 2009 it is quite a stretch to proclaim Jesus advent in 1914 then try to explain “invisible” emperor’s new clothes fashion, why everything is all still messed up in the world.

    So,often the JW revisionist apologist will play the blame game and say 1914 second coming is an invention of ‘ disgruntled apostates’.

    Aren’t interested in being proselytized? As soon as you ascertain who’s rung your bell

    (1) Say, “Sorry, I’m not interested. ”

    (2) Return to whatever you were doing previously or

    (3) Do something different.

    It’s EZ . Fun, too!

    They’re selling a product, like the Fuller Brush men of yore. Not interested? Say so–and forget about them.

    Gee, nothing like a good JW story to stir the pot, is there HF? The one distinction between an established religion and a cult is that the former tries to attract its followers through its teachings while the latter knocks on your door to shove them down your throat.

    They don’t usually ring doorbells here because rich white people are not good customers. It has nothing to do with being good neighbors. The real victims are poor people who they trick into donating their last dime. I work in the projects in Red Hook and they are there every weekend, ringing doorbells.

    They are all a business. Just look at the “brother” who manages their properties in the Heights. Last I checked he’s driving a Mercedes and lives in Brooklyn Heights tax free. Oh but you have to give it all up….just not “him”….
