Eater reports that the Haagen Daz store at 120 Montague Street has been shut down by the Department of Health. The DOH seems to be on a rampage, as many tipsters have mentioned to us that violations that were previously overlooked or not cited are now causing eateries to go over or come dangerously close to being shut down. It takes 28 or more violation points for an establishment to be closed down. At its last inspection conducted in July 2006, the store received 7 violation points. Looking back to 2004, the store has never received more than 9.
Update: There have been many comments, some quite animated, about this report. The accuracy of the Eater piece is in question since no one aside from the "Eater tipster" has seen the alleged DOH notice. As mentioned above, it seems unlikely that a store would go from an all time high of 9 violation points to shut down in 3 years.
