Happy New Year!

2023 has given us more than an easily expected share of disasters and disfunction: a horrific war in the Middle East along with a continued one in Ukraine; near gridlock in Congress; tempestous weather. We at Brooklyn Heights Blog can celebrate the arrival of two new contributors: Caroline Koster, who joined us in September, and Rafael “Raf” Perez, who just came aboard and whose contributions we eagerly await. For other things we and all in Brooklyn Heights can celebrate, see The BHB Ten, above.

New York City has four planned fireworks displays that will commence at 12:00 AM. The one most visible from Brooklyn Heights will be launched from a barge in the waters near the Statue of Liberty. This should be easily visible from the Promenade. There will be one at Grand Army Plaza, which likely will be less fully visible from the Heights, except perhaps from high vantage points such as building roofs. The others will be at Luna Park on Coney Island and at Central Park.

We wish all our readers, and everyone, a better 2024.
